I did it at Tailwheels Etc. Great school and an even greater instructor too. Since the day I first posted here, it has been a real dream come through and I have got 1/3 of the way.. 2/3's left to complete.

You make an interesting point. For example, say if you where to attend an Ivy League school versus a regular university. What are you really paying for? the education? you learn the same thing in both places, albeit one place might be more strict than the other and make you do more work, but its essentially the same material. You are actually paying for the name of the university and the benefits that would give you after graduation. The only problem with that, when it comes to the aviation industry, is that airlines could care less where you learned to be a pilot. Its very different compared to being a lawyer or a businessman because its a job based upon experience, not textbook knowledge. I know I am repeating what you said but it is a good point every wannabe airline pilot should know.
And when the day comes that you finally get called to sit across the desk from an airline interviewer, I doubt they would neglect quality training and a good clean training record (however they diseminate that is another debate entirely). Just as in other professional fields when they looked back at your "Ivy League" education.
And this rant is in no way to advocate any school/academy/fbo or method in particular. Just reconized OP that you do in most cases get what you pay for - and that logic is seen in all facets of a given operation.
