Schools
Hows it going everyone.
I have been reading past threads about how it's not worth going to a school just for an education in aviation and so on and so forth. My question to everyone, what schools do you recommend to go to that are relatively affordable that one can get an education inside of the industry as well as good options for other majors outside of aviation?
The two schools that I am considering are Arizona State, which I have read lovely things about, and Central Washington, which I have neither read nor heard anything about, but I know that they have an existing program. What do you think, and what would you recommend.
Thanks
-Phil

University of Cincinnati - Degree Programs
great program, great company does the training (Sporty's Academy, Inc.), great instructors. Also you can transfer into Business at UC CoB with lots of credits transfering over.

Hi MTBTHIS,
I attended (& graduated) a relatively unknown school, that also offers a BS in Aviation. Henderson State University. Not flashy (understatement), but they do a pretty fine job, in my estimation. Program is FAR 141 based (whose isn't), and like most schools, the upper class students do the instructing. Most important to me was (1) is was affordable (very relatively speaking) and, (2) in-state. i.e. no out-of-state tuition. It is located in a pretty rural area, Arkadelphia, AR, about 60 southwest of Little Rock. You may want to check them out, but it sounds like it's going to be too far for your needs. It worked out pretty well for me, and saved me probably $75,000 over what ERU would've cost, and, arguably, yielded the same results--steady employment in my chosen profession.
Regards,
Chuck

I would not recommend Central Washington University for the actual flying. I would recommend going there for the aviation classes. Their contractor for flying is nothing but an over priced place. The cheif flight instructor landed the most expensive plane with the landing gear still up. Is that the kind of instruction you would want?

I'm another Central Grad. I thought my schooling at Central was good and like RomeoSierra agree that aviation classes taught by the school were good.
I will agree however that Midstate Aviation, the contractor for CWU was a bit more pricey then other FBO's located in eastern Washington. In the end I had fun there and learned a lot. I've been away from the school for over a year now so things may have changed?... I really don't know.
