B737-300 Type rating $3500
Just thought I'd pass it along, for Dec. they are doing a special at AeroService in Miami for a 737-300 type for $3500.
I guess it's to keep some $ coming in rather than the sim idleing since the month is slow with the holidays and all.
They will know on Monday what the next class date is, probably between the 17th and 22nd to start. X-mas off, and it's 12 days long total.
There's a 40 hr. online ground school, so I'd recommend getting on this soon so there's time to do it before class starts.
Just wanted to pass it along cause the price is great if you can afford it.
See anyone who does there.

Sell you my type for $3400...everyone needs to decide if getting the type is good for them, you will be asked why did you get a 37 type in some cases.

Easy for me to answer, it was free.
WIA (unemployment is paying for mine). So it is a free ATP & a B737 type... Somehow I doubt I'd catch any grief in an interview.

I had the 737 Type and during my CAL interview, they asked me about it. As long as you can handle yourself, having the type rating won't matter. Every time you fly, you have an alternate airport available. Same thing for career planning - there's nothing wrong with having a backup.
Having said that, as good a deal as a $3500 type rating is, I really don't see SWA hiring in the next 1-2 years. Maybe I'll be wrong.

I'm headed to Higher Power in JAN. GI bill paying for most of mine. I have thought about what other companies will think when they see my 737 type. All of my time is in NAVY jets, so I figure the 737 type would help me be more familiar with a big Boeing type airplane and also show that I am able to learn a new aircraft. That, and the GI bill paying for most of it should be enough of an explanation to satisfy the interviewers. I have read conflicting opinions on this topic and would appreciate any feedback. I do plan on applying for SWA, but not just SWA.

Nice people down there at Higher Power. I was grilled on why I had a type talking with the Virgin folks, did't get the job with them, oh did I mention I had been flying the bus for years...so like I said it can be double edged, and yes mine was FREE too, used that as a backdrop, after that they asked if I interviewed or applied to SWA...
Now it is well known that some airlines will have issue with a 73 type with OE, on the assumption that SWA was your first choice, but if you got a free type most folks shouldn't hold that against. I someone told me they didn't apply to SWA, I'd assume they were lying.

Outfits that are scared of hiring the best qualified, most highly motivated pilots are not worth working for anyway. If you have the funds go get that 737 type. I got mine in 1980 and have not regretted it.

Thanks for the feedback. I need to get my ATP practical anyway, so I figured I'd "kill two engines with one bird" and get my ATP practical along with my 737 type. Seems like a no-brainer to me. That being said, anyone out there been to HPA lately that can offer any advice? Gouge?
