IFR Students..

Another great trick for the E6B that I used when learning was that I found the small numbers on the E6B hard to read so I went out and bought the one that flight schools use.
It was great being that it was four feet tall and real easy on the eyes. Once you managed to get it into the passenger seat of the 152 it was smooth sailing from there
and no....no pocket protector from me....Im a Marine what else did you expect...I carry everything I need in case of any emergency to include the chance I may need to start a revolution on the ground and fight my way to freedom for those times I fly the half hour south to Mexico

The E6B still has it's value. I have used it several time deverting. Plus it's alot cheaper too.

fsi?
Putting all cost aside, what do you think of fsi in vero. Im headed down that way in september. I have been doing my research for a long time so I know the risk. I just want feedback about the school. I work for an airline now and I have a few people on the inside that can help me with a job. I just want to get the best training the quickest i can.

This question is best directed to the flight training forum of this site. You will have a greater chance of getting the answers you are looking for. It also helps prevents this thread from being hijacked and going in the complete polar opposite direction of where it was originally intended.
There are ALOT of intelligent experienced people (and other not so intelligent less experienced) on this site and I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

I kind of sound like an advertisement...that has got to be worth one free months membership to APC

Leo, you get a couple rounds of applause from me! I'm not far behind you on the private, but I still haven't mastered the E6B. There is a question in another thread about going 250 kts, how long does it take to travel 50 miles? What does your E6B say? For some reason, my whiz wheel has frozen over! hee hee.

In My experience flying freight, I carried the whiz wheel in my kneeboard but never once used it,routes were predetermined, ATC will tell to to intercept ** or report ** GPS does all else. The only time I can think of to use it is running fuel critical due to heavy headwinds and needing to calculate fuel burn based on the altitude with the most positive wind. As far as wind correction, vor needles and gps pink lines fix that for you
The whiz wheel is great for VFR but the IFR environment is much more controlled. Thus have all things at your disposal for good crm but never stop flying the airplane to play with the whiz!!!
oh, and as far as the flight bag, carry the mimimal amont of crap as possible. Dont stop flyind so as to dig in an enormous womans purse to find something that you probably wont. Believe me, less is better!
