CFI Renewal

Just realized my CFI is due end of the month.

I'm taking the American Flyers' online course...it take 100 minute of wait to completet each module. Someone said AF no requires only 4 hours of total time. How's that possible?

Anyway to 'speed up' the online 'log in' time?

(It's just that the FAA closes offices today and don't open till Tuesday) and my CFI expires 5/31).

Any insight is apprecaited!

Max

You have to sit there, and wait for each module's required time to elapse..there's no way around it.

You might be able to call the FSDO and see if they'll help you out..but most likely..you've waited too long.

I would recommend the Gleim FIRC it doesn't require you to spend a certain amount of time to complete. Just however long it takes you to complete it.

I hope the FSDO is not like ATL. They require an appointment and they won't grant one for the same day. Good luck.

Wouldn't count on any help. I can hear them now, "If you want the responsibility of teaching people how to fly, you should have taken the responsibility of renewing your certificate on time. We'd be happy to make an appointment for a checkride for you though...".

And sorry to say, I agree with them.

I took the Gleim course in Feb, and there's a "time constrain". Just make sure you spend at least 30 sec on each review/question. It is a cummulative thing and it'll tell you so at the beginning of each module. At the end, you can print your certificate of completion. Take that and completed 8710 to the FSDO. Do call them before it expires to see if they're willing to help. Good luck.

I'd call AF to confirm. Whatever you do, don't let it expire. I wrongly let mine expire 14 years ago and regret I did. Otherwise, suck it up, gets some libation in front of you and do the online course as painful as it is.

I did it 6 years ago with AF and had the same issue. The 2 years ago, no issue. I was able to take the test as quickly as I could get through it.

(Hint, hint: you can cut and paste the material into a separate word document, so you can "study" before taking the test :D)

I know when I did it the first time, the timer would "time out" after a few minutes too, so I had to keep clicking back into the window to keep it going. Huge PITA. Maybe try a different web browser - I don't know. Not sure what was different the second time around but it sure was a lot faster. I'd also call them before they close this afternoon to try to get an answer.

It is a good deal though since you can now renew for nearly free (I've been doing the $50 Fed fee just so I don't have to deal with the FSDO). Good luck.

Nothing like waiting til the last minute :p
