oh common now, china isnt communist anymore. They are just very very socialist on their way to a semi capitalist form of economics.

TOPFLY academy near Barcelona Spain has a contract to train Chinese students as well. Also, many of these Chinese students end up with 99 year contracts as a result of having their training paid for.

Shanghai Scrap What’s a disgruntled Chinese airline pilot supposed to do?

You end up tied to your employer for life. But hey, at least tougher to fly a 737 or A320 right off the bat!!

Hi!

From what I understand, it takes them a LONG time to make Capt, which is why the Chinese (and everyone else in Asia) are recruiting US captains like CRAZY!

Clever way of doing things. That's the thing in those countries, you're just trapped. You have to wonder if any defect while here in the states seeing what happens here vs. what happens at home.

I taught a bunch of them.

One of them is finishing up his upgrade as CRJ captain this week. 1700TT and three years at Shanghai Airlines.

The ones on the 737 will have to wait until 2700TT to upgrade.

I haven't asked them what their pay is in yuan.

I do know that it's a good job in China, especially as young as they have gotten into it. Yes, they are obligated to work for their company basically for their whole career but it beats doing many other things over there.

From a few of my Air China and Air China Cargo student I believe they start out as an Observer( basically jumpseat in Airbus and Boeing products) for a year and then eventually get in as a FO. Their pay to start out suck maybe equivalent to 25K US and they max out around 50K-60K as international Capt. One thing you have to realize is there culture has little focus on getting wealthy. There idea of a good life is way different than ours. Many will never own a house, apartment, condo or a car and this is normal. Not to stereotype but many just want enough money to buy various consumer goods, get a place that there parents or wife's parents can move into and retire from whatever job they have.
