Renewal of expired CFI

Renewal of expired CFI
I am interviewing for a Chief Flight Instructor position at a FAR 141 program at a local college.
Sadly, my CFI expired after the FSDO failed to renew it based on my airline flying and previous positions that allowed for automatic renewal. For years there was no difficulty in getting it renewed, but a change in personnel at the FSDO shut the door for any future renewals.
Anyone know what easy steps can be taken to reinstate the license?

I am the VERY new guy here but I listen up when Very seasoned pilots speak. From what I hear all you need is a check ride which you need not take with the FAA. You can find a DPE who reissues CFI certificates and take it with him/her. Good Luck.
