Default Arizona Flight Training Center

Hey all. Anyone ever train with these folks, or hear of their reputation? Scam, rip off, or great. Any info or feedback is appreciated. Thanks, NoBeta

I am looking forward to finish my private pilot license with them this semester, but I don't know much about the school neither.

Hi Dan. Welcome to APC forums. So far I would say that no news could be considered good news. Some schools have such a bad reputation that most of the community know to stay away. They are close to home for me so I thought I would check them out. I had never heard of them until the other day. Good luck with your private, and again welcome to the boards.

Hello NoBeta, thank you for the welcome!

Yeah, I second that; I've been doing some researches to find a school around Tucson-Phoenix area. I tried Sonoran Wings, but they don't have much experience with foreign students, so I decided to pick another one.

Hopefully AZFTC is a fair flight school. I will keep researching, but this sounds like the best opportunity so far.

Good luck with your flight school searching!

KGEU has had it's run of bad luck over the past 4 or 5 years with flight schools. Air safety, and gold coast were as curupt as the devil himself from a business stand point, and most of the CFI's there were scum bags. The only reason I mention these other schools is because usually on an airfield when one school goes belly up they just change their name and thats about it, however the same people are still flying and running the school house. I would bet you this is the case at GEU. I would ask to see if anybody in the front office was associated with those two flight schools before you make a decision.

Learning to fly in Glendale can be difficult, but rewarding, I've always enjoyed that little airfield.

You made a wise choice staying away from Sonoran Wings. Their CFI's are really good, the receptionist is one of the nicest ladies I've ever meet, and they have decent planes at the price they charge. The owner and chief CFI however are two men that I would avoid at all cost.

Sonoran Wings operates out of KTUS, not KGEU. As far as Sonoran Wings, they are a good school. Yes the owner can be grouchy sometimes but he doesn't show it to the customers. He is a prior Army aviator and he just wants his school to be the best around. The maintenance is excellent and they are big on safety. I did my training there. They might not be the best school in Arizona but I found them to be the best in Tucson. The chief instructor is under pressure from the owner, but he is a good guy who holds everyone to strict standards. He was a long time instructor for Lufthansa at their Arizona Flight Training Center and also flew in the Navy. Sonoran Wings never asks you to pay upfront and they are also a 141 approved school.

There are plenty of great FBO's in the valley that have great prices and great 141 approved courses. I will be getting my Inst and Comm at Chandler. They have a great program, great planes, great staff, and great prices. I would shop around...

If he doesn't show his "grouchy" side to customers then how would I know he is grouchy? Afterall I wouldn't be able to say anything if I wasn't a customer.

Have you ever ran a business? Using an excuse like that will get you know where. You cant treat a customer with disrespect just because you have a military background. I will agree with you though he only wants his flight school to be the best there is and he should since it's his school. Still no excuse to not be a professional.

What is the name of the flight school in Chandler? Chandler Air Service?
