Thumbs up Aviator College (Ari Ben) OR BROWARD COLLEGE

They both offer a great program. I plan to get my Associates in Aviation Associates of Science Degree and go to prob ERAU for my Bachelors in Business, both are great schools.I understand Aviator college has had some issues in the past such as Mechanical issues on there planes(its better now). They are both the same and offer almost the same program but i don't know which one is better. Broward is partnered with Aerosim used to be know as Delta connection acedmy. They offer a course that will get you 800 hours only if you become a flight instructor. That program is called Quality Airline training.OR i can go to Aviator and take a course that offers

Although I don't have any personal experience with Ari Ben, I personally would not recommend it. I drove down to Ari Ben/Aviator College a year ago to check it out. At that time I had about 150 hours was looking into finishing my Commercial & multi and CFI/II/MEI. When i was on the tour of their facility the lady that was guiding me walked me by a hangar, and told me that they were keeping the planes inside away from the weather. (what weather haha?). Anyways I counted 8 (out of a total of 15) of their duchesses inside with cowlings pulled off, on jacks, etc. Obviously they weren't being hangared to keep them out of the weather, they were in maintenance. After seeing that, and a few other inconsistencies this lady told me, I have no idea what was the truth and what was fiction. She tried to sell me a multi time building block of 50 hours, saying that they would guarantee me a flight instructor job if and only if I had I did the time building. Btw, this was at a time when hiring in the industry was at a complete standstill and I'm not sure how any job guarantee could be credible, along with the fact that I would have to put down $6000+ to buy time, essentially buying the job (if there really was a job for me in the end).

After the 'tour' was concluded I asked her if I could talk to some flight instructors about the program. Then she told me that everyone was up flying. But meanwhile I saw a group of students and instructors smoking outside and she ushered me past them as if she didn't want me asking them any questions.

After this, I had a friend go there to finish his commercial, multi and CFI's and he confirmed my suspicion about maintenance. He said it wasn't unusual for half or more of their planes to be down at one time. He said the planes he flew had an unusual amount of maintenance issues and he felt that planes were returned to service before they were fixed properly. When he started he was told that finishing commercial, multi and CFI would take 90 days (and they would include 3 months of housing), but it took him 8 months or so and he attributed this to planes being down and having issues getting into ground school classes. He said having to pay for the remaining months housing added a lot to his total bill. He also fell for the 'guaranteed job' and after dropping a chunk of money for time building he told me he was on a very long wait-list for a job. After waiting months, he ended up finding employment elsewhere before his name worked its way up the list.

Personally, I plan on attending Ari-Ben. I already have a BS degree from ERAU. I finished back in 1987. I'm just waiting to get my medical.

I've visited their facilities a number of times unannouced and unscheduled. I just popped in for a visit. Having lived and worked in the Fort Pierce area, I see their a/c flying all the time. True, they've had their issues with maintenance however I firmly believe those issues have been addressed and corrected. The 100hr inspections may come a little more frequently due to the amount of flying thats being done.

I've asked about the time it takes to complete the Pro Pilot Program and from what I gather, just like any other school, it all depends on the student. Yeah, there are going to be circumstances beyond your (my) control. I have to adjust, adapt and overcome. If I get frustrated at every circumstance that arises, IMO, I'm only doing myself harm. I've been told that the program can be completed in as little as 4 months or the usual which takes most students anywhere from 6-8 months to complete. I'm prepared for 10 months if necessary.

I plan on studying, making good use of my instructor, getting with others and going over material as often as I can; making use of every resource that's at my disposal. Hell, I'm paying for it so I might as well. Not going there with my head in the clouds. I'm focused and determined to achieve my MEII. If I'm able to get on with them as instructor, so be it. If not, then I'll look elsewhere.

The one advantage that I have is that when I do finish, I'll owe no money on any loans. My flight training expenses are in an escrow account as we speak. Like I said, I'm just waiting to hear from the FAA concerning my medical. And if I'm not granted a medical, it's graduate school for me!

Fwiw,

I am a current Delta Capt. and got my multi, cfi, cfii, mei in the 1989-1990 timeframe at the aviator and instructed there (ADS) from 1990-1992. Cohen was a straight shooter. If you are not a whiner he will do what he tells you. Also it is to your benefit to not **** off TJ.
