Wink Title IV Flight Schools

First off, I want to say this is my first post on this forum, and I am glad to be a part of such a great community.

So Ive recently graduated college with a bachlors in science. Right now I am working towards getting my PPL which should be finished within a month or two. I'm currently looking for a flight school to finish up the licenses, ratings, hours etc.

I want to take out a loan but I dont want to through a private lender and I was told that flight schools under title IV offer federal funding/loans. I would much rather prefer federal loans than private loans.

The Problem with title IV flight schools is that I CANT find any schools which are under title IV except, Aerosim Flight Academy and Ari-ben flight school. These flight schools have their pros and cons...but all in all look pretty solid. I just want to do more research on other schools.

So, do you guys know of more flight schools that offer title IV programs for students? I would greatly appreciate any info.

Thanks!

Welcome to APC. Good idea to check here for info on these things. You do not hear of federal subsidized/unsubsidized student loans generally referred to as "Title" anything but whatever you call there are aggregate limits on what you can borrow, and if you used them up to get your bachelors you will probably run out of cash before you have all your flight ratings. Flight training is going to run $75-100 grand by the time you are done, so we are talking some serious money on top of what you have already taken out.

wiki on student loans

In my case I completely tapped out the federal part and had to go to private. The good news is the private loans are not that much more expensive than the unsubsidized federals.

Ari-Ben is called Aviator something-or-other now and they have pretty good reputation. They had some issues with maintenance at one point judging from the rumor mill but even that has died down. The other school I do not know anything about. Be careful about any school that wants more than a thousand dollars up front money. Like, refuse any such school. There have been a number of seemingly stable places go bust and run off with deposits in the last five years.

Thanks, for the advice Cubdriver. I will make sure to look out for flight schools that offer more than they actually have. Looks like I will be looking into getting a private loan for the rest of my training.
