Question Is the 'matchbox' lesson real?

I have a question.

A man recently told me that he had been taking flying lessons.

And that one of these lessons included flying downwards with an airplane
in such a manor that a matchbox which was placed on the "dashboard" started to hang/float loosely in the air before him.

Further more, his instructor told him to try and steer the plane so that the floating matchbox would land in the chest-pocket of his shirt.

And finally, that he actually had mastered this.

Only problem is, i don't belive it.

It just sounds so crazy!

Like taken out of a movie or a cartoon!

So can any of you pilots in here confirm or deconfirm this?

Is it possible at all?

Have anyone of you done this?

Thanks for your help

You can do that. I don't know about getting the matches into a pocket though. Also, that trick is more of a "Hey want to see something cool?" not and actual maneuver one must practice to learn to fly.

And for those that attempt this, make sure the other pilot you are with does not decide to open a bag of skittles at that time. At first it looks really cool when dozens of bright colored dots are eerily floating around you, but then when you level off, they come crashing down and scatter all over the place. Also, watch out for the battery pack from your headset hitting you in the face.

Have you never been over the hump on a rollercoaster and momentarily felt 'lifted' (as in negative Gs)?

Probably one of the better known examples:

And a company that specializes in zero-G flights using a 727:

Should we expect to see this on Mythbusters?

Or shall we soon see a series of NTSB reports were all the pilots coincidentally had a box of matches in there shirt pocket.
