Question Career Change

I am looking to make a career change at 28 out of my current field into aviation. The long and short of it is I want to be a pilot. I've researched all the schools, weighed the pros and cons of having to start over paying my dues in a new field and I'll be darned if I don't become a pilot. Having made the decision I'm left with one task. Plan the work and work the plan. The part of the plan I'm running into problems with is financing this career change. Before I go running up between 10-60k worth of debt I am wondering if there are government, state, federal, private grants out there for people looking to make the change to becoming a pilot. Most of the major schools seem to have good financing programs available but anything I can do to reduce the cost without sacrificing more time getting my license and certifications would be invaluable. Can anyone make any recommendations on what might be out there in the way of financial aid for someone like me?

Did you see the thread at the top of this forum?

http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/showthread.php?t=4318

This question has been asked, and answered, to death. Please follow the link above and do a little reading. Also the list in that thread is just a SMALL sample of the info that's available in the SEARCH feature.

Welcome to the forums, and good luck on your journey.

Reading through the above links. However the "SEARCH" feature returns the following responseI would have used that FIRST otherwise)

FatmanD, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

There is no such thng as a dumb question if yuou are earnestly trying to learn. I thought the purpose of these forums were fro pweople tol earn about about a career or a recreational activity that we all love to due. Why the rude coments? I dont get it. I love to help people with aviation help. And as far as asking repeated questions, of course you are going to get the same quetions asked. New people come in with the same quetions. If all they had to do was do a search what would be the point of the forums. In that case probably every question has been asked at least five times, we might as wel tell everybody to search and nobody ask questions ever again. Is that the purpose of this site?

Uh, do you think it's smart to log into an automotive forum and expect to be TOLD everything about learning to drive cars just because you asked? How about having a little respect for yourself and do a few minutes of searching first?

If all they had to do was a search then there WOULD be these forums. Otherwise, the search would turn up nothing as nothing had been posted and these newbie shotgun type questions would get answered again, but this is not the case.

I also don't buy the excuse that he couldn't do a forum search and that's why he's coming into the fray unarmed. Do a GOOGLE search and you'll have hours of reading instead of cramming all your eggs into one basket, like this forum. Sheesh...
