Am looking for an examiner to carry out b737 ATP sim checkride.
I have European atp(L) with 4000b737 hours.
I have only to carry out the ATP check ride to gain FAA ATP. If that check ride could also allow the rating on the FAA ATP then even better but that is not essential.

Perhaps a b737 examiner might have some time to spare?
Would appreciate the input of relevant experience here.

To just get a FAA ATP you need to pass a FAA medical (just the third class for the checkride), pass the knowledge test and pass a checkride. The inspector or designee doesn't have to to be a 737 person. You will want to do some training in the plane you are going to fly plus no one is going to just let you use a plane for the checkride without flying with you first.

If want an ATP with the 737 type, you can not just take the checkride. 61.63 says you have to have logbook endorsements saying you have completed ground and flight training in the 737. No 142 school is going to let you rent a sim for 2 hours without going through their course.

And don't forget the TSA background check.

The designee or the FAA Inspector must have a B737 type in order to administer the type ride.

See FAA Order 8900.1 and 8900.2.

I probably need to go back to the grammer thread. I read this as "I want to get an ATP with a 737 type. Or I could just get the ATP. But getting the ATP and the type would be nice." Hence my "to just get the FAA ATP.."

Just sticking strictly to the subject, I mentioned all I need to do is ATP checkride so all other boxes are ticked.

Am hoping an examiner within an airline operating b737 could carry out ATP checkride (gaining the rating on FAA ATP not necessary)

So you're wanting to take a ATP checkride in a 737 but not get the type rating. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing that before. I don't see any guidance on the FAA web site for that.

If the Examiner is "within an airline operating B737" I think you mean an Aircrew Program Designee. An APD is only authorized to perform airman certification for an operator’s pilots who have been trained under the operator’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved training program. Same thing for a TCE at a 142 school. The only people who can just give checkrides are Designated Pilot Examiners and FAA Inspectors but I don't think you're going to find a DPE with 737 on their letter of authorization. Which leaves you with a Fed. The good thing is Feds are free. I have no idea how you're going to dry lease a sim for a couple hours.

To do b737 rating in sim is a matter of completing a "reduced rating course" with it's own minimum course hours. Although eligible for this reduced course due to b737 experience, the course is still prohibitively expensive for my current requirements. I want the ATP, not necessarily the b737 rating.

The ATP checkride however is possible straight off, with no preparation. I am also not required to be signed off beforehand ( as being ready). In reality however I would of course seek guidance and do as much beforehand as advised.

An APD being authorized only to perform certification within an operators FAA approved training program is the kicker.

I am in a similar situation and was wondering if and how you finally got that checkride/ATP. Did you find a way to do only the checkride without gaining the 737 rating and having to go through the costly type rating course?
