Commercial SEL initial
I am going to be instructing a Commercial SEL initial student. I haven't done the initial before, just the add-on rating, so I just wanted to be sure I had my info correct from looking at the FAR:
250 hours total (along with the other minor hr req)
50 hours of CC time
20 hours of training:
10 hours of instrument training
10 hours of complex training
1 2hr day CC flight of more than 100 NM
1 2hr night CC flight of more than 100 NM
10 hrs of solo:
1 CC of 300 NM total (250 NM leg)
5 hrs night solo VFR w/ 10 TO/Lnds at apt w/ Control Tower.
Maneuvers tested include:
Short Field TO/Lnd
Soft Field TO/Lnd
Pwr off 180
Stalls
Steep Turn
Steep Spiral
Chandelles
Lazy 8s
8-on-pylons
Navigation (VFR CC)
Accelerated Stalls
Emergency Descent
I realize there is more than this, but just want to make sure Im not missing anything big. Thanks!

HSLD has the point, you need a copy of the PTS for that certficate to aim for. Either print one out for you and your student, or make them buy a printed copy online. It is cheaper to just buy them usually.
You'll also need a syllabus, and unless you want to write one (why bother) you can download a Part 61 suggested syllabus from AOPA for free. Gleim also sells one that is geared toward Part 141 schools, but is easily adapted to Part 61. I personally prefer the Gleim syllabus. Make the student pay for their copy, and you can use it to check on their progress. I also used to keep an Excel spreadsheet of what they had done and still needed to do, it gets sort of fussy at the commercial level.
