You're two weeks away and you haven't passed the knowledge tests yet... Geeez. You have your lesson plans finished; but how much have you practiced teaching with them. BTW, lesson plans are always a work in progress, subject to improvement. Give practice lessons to anyone you can find and as much as possible, use your dog if you need to. Be prepared to answer questions from your mock students. Be prepared to answer tougher questions from the examiner, but don't dig a hole. This will polish your delivery and also allow other weaknesses or possible errors to surface. Additionally, one of the biggest reasons people fail their CFI examination is not talking! TALK TALK TALK! When teaching a lesson in the airplane keep your eyes outside and be sure to clear the area prior to manuevers. I also use the three second rule; never keep your eyes inside the cockpit for more than three seconds at a time. BTW if your dog asks you a question you don't need to do any of this. Good Luck

Relax and be the instructor. The examiner wants to see that you teach properly and are safe and within regulations and limitations at all times. Keep working on the lessons plans and teach one a day to keep yourself on top of your game.

And don't let it expire, ever! My friend did once, and he said it was the happiest day of his life because he hated instructing. But when he was surfing the FAA site looking for inspector jobs, he realized that they all require a current CFI certificate. Soooooo, I had to fly with him so he could get it reinstated.

Try not to be itimidated by the examiner they are people too. Be prepared and confident but not cocky! In the air don't explain so much you can't focus on flying and the manuver.

My best advice, relax as well. You can't quite possibly know everything that will be on the oral, as nobody is perfect in this world.

I would make sure you have Advisory Circulars printed out well 61-65E, 61-98 etc.

Also I would know the FOI inside and out as that will be a major factor being a CFI.

Just go in there confident, remember no bs'ing the DPE/CheckAirman. They can smell that from a mile away and you'll end up digging yourself a hole. But if your going for your CFI ticket, you should know that fully well by now.

Best of luck!

kymiller, are you from Kentucky? Are you going to the Louisville FSDO? Which inspector are you going with if so? My advice is the same as everyone else. Don't think of it as a test. Go in, tell the inspector what you know, have a conversation with him, go on a quick flight with him. 9 times our of 10, it will be easier than what everyone else makes it out to be. It might sound strange coming from the frame of mind where you are trying to learn/know absolutely everything, but have fun with it.

My advice to you would be to RELAX!! you have done everything you could. If you studied appropriately and know your stuff, you will be fine. When I did my initial CFI, I was nervous and my nerves got the best of me. The more relaxed you are the more you are able to think and work your way to an answer. Being a little nervous is good, but just don't be overly nervous and everything will be fine. BEST OF LUCK!
