Default ATP rule-- ME or SE?

For the new ATP rule, in order to be hired as an FO for a 121 would just a single engine ATP with a commercial ME rating satisfy the requirement or do you have to have a ME ATP? Cant find an answer anywhere. Thanks.

The rule isn't to be hired, it is to fly the line. Let them give you the ATP in the sim.

Agree that's how it should be... but the ATP is a stated requirement for many airlines, and a de facto requirement for most other airlines, just to get the interview. I'd be surprised if even the companies who don't require it (formally or informally) didn't use the ATP as a filter for whom they call first....

Gotta get the interview to get the job. Gotta get the job to get the sim to get the ATP....

My 2¢: get the ME ATP if possible.

Ahh I didn't think about applying with just the ATP mins and let them give me actual ATP in their sim on their dime. Good thinking!

A SE ATP normally has little relevance to anything.

But right now, it might be the cheapest way to lock in the ATP before the additional training requirements take effect next year. I haven't read the rule in detail but I assume that if you hold any ATP certificate(ie ASEL), an AMEL add-on would not be subject to the new training requirements.

And if you read 61.165 it says to add a MEL class rating to an ATP after July 31, 2014 you have to complete the ATP CTP. However 61.156 (d) says as long as you have passed the written before Aug 1 next year you have 2 years to pass the checkride without doing the ATP CTP. So there are less hoops to jump through if you just take the written early next summer. How that will play out in the hiring game is anyone's guess.

Any company will give you an ATP while doing a check ride but remember you can't mess up on the ATP ride

What do you mean "you cant mess up??" Even if you already have your ATP when doing your sim check, if you bust the check ride then you're still screwed right? I don't see the difference.

Don't mess up anyway. Messing up goes as a training event down regardless, which follows you. Doesn't matter what ride it is on.

Seems like a SE ATP would be a relatively easy thing to get? Especially if you are a flight instructor flying skyhawks all day? Then the ME ATP would just be an add-on that you could get at an airline. If you had an ATP SE you could still put on your resume that you hold an ATP.
