When you go for your check ride, your instructor will not be in the plane. You'll be paying a Designated Pilot Examiner about $400 dollars and he/she will expect you to have your "dung in one pile".
An alternative to a DPE is an actual FAA dude, and he'll be free, but he/she may be less tolerant of a deviation.
You'll be expected to perform all maneuvers to PTS standards.
The check ride is about a half-day ordeal.
You'll start by showing the DPE your documentation (logbook, test score, etc), then he'll ask you to plan a x-cty, which you'll go over, explaining why you chose the route, and anything to look out for, places to divert, etc.
Next comes the oral portion. The DPE will ask a myriad of questions, some straight from the book, some common sense.
If all is well at this point, you'll head to the plane and take the ride. If you fail a maneuver, the DPE will give you the option of continuing - that way you'll only be retested on the failure - or if the failure was bad enough, the DPE may stop the exam and have you (or worst, him) land.
You may want to talk to your instructor as to what you're really doing - stage check or a practice check ride. This does not sound like a PPL ride.

That is exactly what I did/what happened. I guess reading in-between the lines, that is why he wants to do the maneuver again tomorrow (short-field landings, to retest it).
Anyways, I'm sure i'll get more information tomorrow, and i'll let everyone know what happens. I guess i'll read over my PTS again.

a good amount of the instructors at the flight school are DPEs and we fly with a DPE who isn't our normal instructor.

I did mine at a "mom and pop" FBO and had the same CFI, did the actual check ride with someone I've never seen before. Sounds like yours is a more structured and perhaps "pilot school" type thingy.
Still confused about the foggles.

N9,
That's exactly what it's like. They have a large group of instructors and have a college program and what not. I'm not in the program but I follow the same syllabus.
Anyways, I flew again on Sunday and passed everything. He had be do more short-field approaches and they were much better.
I had some extra money from what I set aside so I am going to try and get my complex endorsement this week. I flew their 172RG cutlass yesterday and it was a lot of fun. What I really wanted to do was get my High performance rating/Complex at the same time so if I ever wanted to rent a 182RG (a club nearby has one), I'd be able to. But still, I figured what the heck, the rg is a lot of fun.
I aslo am going to fly to TEB with my instructor this weekend to get an idea of what it's like. That way if I ever decide to go there in the future I'll know what to expect.
Thanks for the advice folks.
