Opinions on UVSC online degree program
I have a 2 year from another community college in aviation technology. I'm at the point now where I need to start finishing my 4 year on-line so I can check another box on these applications. I'm looking for experiences anyone may have with UVSC (Utah Valley State College) or recommendations on other programs. I need something preferably that can transfer my current aviation degree and experience and not break the bank, as I have a wife and baby these days. Also something productive to do on my 15 day reserve blocks in Germany, Kuwait, Atlanta ect...
Thanks
Thanks

I'm a student with them. Although, this is my first semester. My aviation stuff that I did with ERAU did transfer.
I've had no issues with UVSC so far. All the online stuff is self paced. I, almost like you, have a wife, the baby will be here in April, and I'm active duty, so I do spend time away. They didn't transfer some of my CLEPs though, that was a bummer, but no big deal.

I am just a few credits away from graduating. For an aviation degree, it is alright. If you can, do the non aviation classes at a local college and transfer them. The math and philosophy classes are not very good online.
If there is any way to make it happen, I would really look into getting a non aviation degree. Right when I get this degree, I will be going right into another degree so that I can have something to fall back on, like law or accounting.
I would have never done this degree to start with if I knew how useless it would be. The only thing that any aviation degree is good for is to check the box that says that you have a four year degree. If that is all you want from your education, then UVSC is just as good as any other aviation degree.

I agree with Shaun. I already have associates degree, A&P, back up career and all. Flying is my 2nd career, I'm still active duty. This degree's main purpose was to help me with getting Financial Aid for flying, along with the use of my military tuition assistance and VA, so it's a free 4yr degree minus the flight expenses and with VA that's pretty cheap. I'll be getting a master's degree after this before I retire still.

Thanks for the input.
Their web sight says they will give you credit for flight time, ratings and such. I'm an ATP W/ about 4000 hrs and 2 type ratings. Did you have luck with all your ratings and time transferring. I'm looking for something I can do while I'm out on the road then shelf it when I come home for my 10 days a month. I need to be done in about the next 2-3 years.
I've looked into a distance accounting or business degree with University of Alaska (UA because I get in-state tuition) but it looks like It could take quite a bit longer since very little of my associates will transfer.
thanks

Seems pretty easy to transfer the ratings. I'm probably going to have my instrument done before my semester for it starts and I can just transfer it at that point. The advisor told me they encourage folks to get and stay ahead on the ratings and just transfer them.
I'd call them and ask about your other course transfers. All of my ERAU did transfer, but one of them didn't count in my current degree program.

congratulations on your new little one on the way.
Thanks for your input. I sent them an e-mail from the link on the web sight a few weeks back with some questions but no reply. Should I call the registration office or try to get in touch with some one in the aviation department?

Opinions on UVSC online degree program
I finished my BS degee from UVSC in 2003. I had attended the Campus back in 1992 for my training and AS degree. The traing back then was through a local FBO (Alpine Aviation) and was a really bad deal. However, now that the school has its own flight operation it has become a top level program.
When I was taking the 3rd and 4th year courses from 2001 through 2003, there were problems in getting the classes I needed as they werent available yet. However, that was only during the first year that I was atempting to get registered for them. This was because the classes were just being developed. After the classes were all up and available online things went really well.
I feel that it was good value for the cost of the degree.
