Basically, yes. The CAAS (FAA/CAA) just changed their policy on ATPL. It used to be they only recognized an ATPL if you were a Capt and hired as a Capt. So, as a FO you had to sit the entire exam program (11+). That's changed now, however, it seems to be on a case by case basis. If you have an ATPL from the US, UK, OZ, NZ, Canada, JAR there is really no worry. But, if you have one from another country such as the Mexico, they will not recognize the ATPL unless you're hired as a Capt and have the 3000+ hours PIC.

As for the 500 sectors, I would plan on 4-5 years.

I will be interviewing for a FO position in May, could you please explain the flying and out of base allowance consist of how many paid flight hours and per diem within this payment( SGD 5700 for FO).

Per diem is S$8/hour from sign in to 30 min after arrival or S$192/24 hour period.

Flight pay or PPA is a fixed amount (can't remember what it is for FO). You get paid for scheduled time only.

The FO's schedules vary quite a bit, so I can't give you a breakdown of how it works, but if you work say, 18 days/month you would get about S$3456 (192 X 18) and then if you flew 50 hours it would be that times your PPA.

If you want to go,go as a direct entry captain, then it is a breeze!
Otherwise, join as an expat F/O, enjoy the money, enjoy the life and keep your career on hold for 5 years then get out!!

Dabrat....most of your posting is misleading.

For pilost who have "significant" time, I'm talking about a few years in a 737 FMS or higher the sector is 500. They are looking about trying to adjust the requirement on a individual basis. You can come on an "expat contract" and meet the requirements and then be put into the "pool". Once you're done with your upgrade it's on a local contract. There are plenty of Ozzies here that have done just that.

Uprgading is somewhat of a mystery, but it's based on a scoring system. You don't go before any locals, when it's your turn off you go.

My take on things are pretty accurate, and anyway, the first batch of "Expat" Direct Entry Cargo FO's were taken in two years ago..and so everyone is waiting to see what happens when they hit the first milestone..ie 3 years..and then 5 years!!
At the moment they "DO NOT " have a command program for Cargo! the guys will tell you!! They may be working on it..but nothing as yet. It seems it may be modelled on the SIA policy which is what I said.
But at the moment, the guys dont do any CCQA's (yearly evaluations that the mainfleet guys do and is a major part of the command point scoring program), so there is no basis fo them to even "score" the cargo FO's!! Yes it is strictly on points..but if two of the same have equal points, the local is taken over the foreigner, and the Permanent residence also comes before (only fair la)! But again...main fleet policy!!
But for their sake and the majority of guys there, I hope you are right.
We can only wait and see what happens but as people come here to get the "hard facts" I believe mine are not too far from the "truth".

Hate to burst your bubble, but there has been a very slow trickle of FO hiring on mainline for a long time.

The FOs are scored and it's as big of a deal in Cargo as it is in Mainline. However, you fail to point out as a new cadet of JFO it really doesn't have much impact until you become a SFO. There have been no FOs that have come from mainline so, the most likely upgrades will be either expat FOs or FOs that have prior experience. In no case will it be earlier than 5 years in the seat, so in time that's March-April 2009. The Cadets just won't have enough of time. As far as Citizen/PR/Expat, as long as the expat is willing to go to local terms, it's a level field.

I'll be willing to stand behind my facts anytime and quite frankly unless you feel like telling me your FCC number, I guess we'll both know in a few years.

What about if I have the type (744) but no PIC time on type. Do I have to sign the $35k training bond anyway?

I was current and qualified when I arrived, so it was something I didn't pay attention to. I'd have to ask what seat? If it's right seat, most likely not, left seat most likely. In reality there's no difference in training. PM me if you have any specific questions.
