Default SAS makes very deep cuts.

Today SAS announced the firing of all CPH based pilots hired since February 2001. This is a firing, not a furlough (that doesn't really exist in Denmark), so it does not officially come with any recall rights for those pilots. Due to Danish law, most of those pilots will be paid their full salaries for another six months, but the job terminations are official as of today.

Well they do get six months pay. Plus their union provides them an 'A-Kasse', an unemployment insurance that will pay them a minimum of $3,000 per month after taxes, and up to 90% of their salary for three years if they purchased the optional additional coverage. They also don't lose their health insurance just because they lost their job.

I was corrected this morning. The SAS pilots with more than five years of service are getting ten months of full pay from July 1, despite the firing. The six months is the law, the ten months is the union contract.

That was the Swedes that tried that, not the Danes.

Sure. They just lost twenty years of longevity because there's no such things as furloughs. But it's okay because the tax payer is going to fit their medical/unemployment bill.
