Great for getting back to the west coast as a passenger. Won't be much fun to fly it as a crewmember with the short layover.

And of course the layover will be at the Airport Hilton or some such great location. No Redondo Beach, no Santa Monica, no Vencie beach area.....airport, guaranteed.

I'd imagine after a 16 hour flight, all you'd care about is finding a quiet room with a bed even if it's in the motel 6 next to 24L. I should be management.

I can't believe it took them this long. LAX should've been their first US destination.

Do I detect a not of cynicism?

I guess the honeymoon is over. Despite a few real clunkers (CDG, DUS, FRA), I actually thought that our hotels are generally not that bad. It's the insane interpretations of FTL's, crap crew rest facilities and generally inept management that sets me off.

Default Question about the ULH and short layovers...

After reading all these posts about the short duration of your ULH layovers I was wondering if your complain is due to not having enough of days off before/after the trip (due to recent changes in scheduling rules) or just in general.

I thought if you had a decent amount of days off before and after the trip, it would actually be "nice" to do a productive ULH trip with a relatively short overnight so that you can come back home to your family in the shortest amount of time.

Again I've never done it just wondering...

That's an excellent point. We do Asia and the west coast of North America with 24 to 48 hour layovers. The flights aren't 16 hours, but they are 12 to 15; mind you the longer ones such as YVR and PVG are four crew. Other airlines get more time off at an outstation, two days to our one for Japan, but we do get home quicker.

In my personal opinion, I like the time off at the destination almost as much as home; for this reason. When I hit 90 hours with a bunch of quick turns I need a couple of day's at home just to re-coop after the tour, so the extra day at the layover for me would have been better.
