Air Atlanta Icelandic info.
Looking for any info on Air Atlanta-
I am a U.S. pilot currently on the 74-200 and would like to know about the usuall stuff:
schedules
pay
qol
mgmt. vs. pilot relations
etc..
I have been told that crews are based in the U.K. for the most part. This isn't a problem if they take a U.S. FAA ATPL.
Thanks for any info you have to share.

I was on a yes letter there for quite a while a few years back before Air New Zealand hired me. At the time they were amalgamating AAI with Excel, etc. into the Avion group and had a hiring freeze, so I haven't worked there but I know the drill. A good mate who now flies for Dubai royal flight was a skipper there on the 747 classic and he filled me in on the rest.
The licence is not JAR, so they will just convert your FAA ATPL. This may have changed by now, but at the time because it was a co-validation you were responsible for keeping your IFR up. I'd have just gone to Aeroservice and had a check ride in one of their sims, as bombing around in a Seneca isn't my idea of fun and likely would have cost more. Check though as that may no longer be the case, or they may have a guy there, or something else.
The base is where the contract is. If it's a CX cargo deal you'll be in HKG, Malaysian you'll be in KL, Saudia in Jeddah etc., and in a hotel. The UK work would be for the passenger charter operations I would think. You go home, or wherever you feel like going on day's off.
Do you have the pay schedules? Let me know and if not I'll get them to you.
Do you have Jerry's (O'Sullivan at Mountainhigh, they do all the hiring)email address? If not PM me and I'll PM back with his contact details.
A few of our B744 guy's have gone there on LWOP and did not like it. Our guy's kind of have their hand held here though, so going to AAI and dealing with the dynamics of that type of operation was not their thing. I like that type of flying as long as I'm getting paid and have some home time.
I shall fire up my old desktop and see if I can find my buddies brief on AAI that he gave me when I was going to go there. It will be a bit dated but I don't think the info has changed. I have conversed via email with Jerry in the past twelve months regarding short term contracts and the upcoming B777F's, he was still keen to talk so they must be doing steady hiring.
Perhaps someone else has some decent, more recent info. . .

What is up with you guy's and pprune. The next comment I see after 'go to pprune' is generally, 'and the comments aren't possitive'. I have seen stuff on there that is misleading and directing people away from job's because the jerk who made the post wanted a clear run to that company.
Be very careful with what you read there mate. Some info is great but you'll have to read between the lines.
Likely rgpurgatory has already been there though, so it's a bit of a moot point.

Actually, I have tried pprune already, the search function there will not let me search for "air atlanta icelandic" because it does not meet the "minimum four word requirement for search subjects". Whatever. Been on the boars for several years now and have learned to seperate the good stuff from those opinions requiring a large grain of salt
Thanks much for the good info.!

I'm just taking a stab at it, but I'm pretty sure that there are probably not to many AAI pilots on this board.
Cheers, "mate".

No problem. I tried searching on there as well for AAI info and had the same problems you did. So I just narrowed it down to 1 word searches. Specifically Atlanta and Icelandic. It pulled up way more info.
Just curious, where are you flying the 747 now?

I sat next to an AAI PFE while deadheading in Dec. He said the schedule is 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off. He's working the Saudia contract, so he lives in a hotel in Jeddah for his time on, then goes home to Malaysia for his 2 weeks off. Spends plenty of time outside the Kingdom on layovers during his time on.
