why people choose contract jobs

Based on my flight experience, it seems that my best chances for an airline job, is with those contract airline jobs like Korean airline, Japan air line and etc. I don't know any one who works for those airlines under contract. I was wondering why people choose to go for them, how their benefits and salaries are different from US major airlines. Also, is contract means, you will never be a permanant employee, without the chance of a career prograssion. Also, which one of those contract overseas airlines have bases in US, particularly LAX. Is there anywere on the internet, that I can compare their pays and benefits?
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I am in Japan on the AJX contract and I primarily came here for personal reasons. Had I known about contract flying earlier, I would have come here a lot sooner. Salaries in the contract world range from really good to really bad. It depends on a lot. In my situation, my pay and QOL is better than anything that I could have found in the states in the last 10 years.

You are a contract worker and that is all you will ever be. You will never be a permanent worker. That does not have to be a bad thing either. Being able to bounce from company to company straight into a left seat has tremendous advantages. If I got to the point where I was unhappy with the way that I was treated here, I could tell them to kiss off and find another job with very little or no pay cut.

Better pay, good QOL and flexibility are why I am staying in the contract world.

Contract flying can be compared to renting an apartment... Non permanent. Contracting flying affords you the opportunity to experience life around the globe which is I find a fantastic life style. You are never a farther than an airline ticket home.

Now days, there appears to be a reduction of T&Cs due to the number of pilots on the street in the US. With that being said the more lucrative contracts are going to be more competitive.

Get as much information regarding the contracting agency and airline you may fly for. Read the fine print in the contract. Remember… contracts are not cut in stone, and some companies both contacting agencies and airlines may not honor their T&Cs.

In the end, it beats flying in the US.
