Virgin, which recently announced a first half loss of more than $100 million, begins flights from California to Australia today, but Qantas has announced it is adding 14,000 frequent flyer seats to the route.

"Right now is really a boom time for travellers."

This is going to be one hell of an interesting time to watch what's going to happen on the US-Aus routes. It's always been a cash cow for UAL and QF, so I'm expecting to see them fight tooth and nail with VAus and DL.

And If EK ever get the rights to do thru-flights from Aus to the US, it'll be a complete cat fight.

I know that once Continental begins getting the 787, they have talked about flights from IAH non-stop to OZ.
