They must be having trouble attracting pilots who want buy an A320 rating as well, even more difficult to keep them as there isn't exactly any loyalty if one has to front ones $30K type rating. Get the time and off to India.

You might want to give them a call then. I looked at theri site but couldn't find anything as far as minimum qualifications, but someone in their ops should be able to give you the full boo. If they are the same quals as Qantas (listed on their site) then some multi time and ATPL's written and you are getting close.

For those that might still be interested, the CASA website provides a lot of good info on converting a foreign licence (see link below). I am a yank working to convert my FAA ATPL; my partner is Australian and we want to meet the application requirements for the likes of QF, DJ, NZ, etc. Since I have never held a CIR (M/E) I was interested if anyone knew of any schools that have dealt with foreign conversions before? Would prefer somewhere I can do all my flying prep, IREX, and Air Law tests etc in one go. BTW I meet all the hour requirements and we are already working the immigration issue...

If you hold an FAA ATPL with the requesite time on multi crew aircraft then it should just be the Air Law written. As far as NZ is concerned, you can buy a practice exam from the CAA. It covered evrything I needed to know to get through the test. I have a friend at Pacific Blue who converted his FAA to Australian, and uses the Aussie licence to co-validate his Kiwi one. With both of us it was a matter of doing the ride with the company that hired us, which they have to do anyway. It just has to be someone who can issue an ATPL, and most companies have someone.

I know the Aussie/Trans-Tasman market is well stocked with quality pilot talent. I get the impression that at least for the likes of QF they aren't likely to even consider me for hire until I meet their licence requirements ATP(A)L, CIR (ME), etc. Am I mistaken? If so is it acceptable to send resumes with all my FAA qualifications?

Howdy MayFly. You will at least need residence in Australia before they will consider you at QF. Their web site says they are hiring next year but I would ask one of their pilots. As far as Air NZ, they are telling people on hire letters that it will be 2009.
I did not need the licence when I was first hired, just the Law written and requesite time on two crew aircraft, but that was for Air Chathams and I had a 580 rating and they needed a captain. That is a nice way to get going down here; start with a smaller carrier and move up.
But for QF, I'd want to be in the country working with residence or citicenship, highly unlikely, I would think, that you would get a job otherwise. Same for JetStar, but they will be easier to get on with in the near future then QF, and you don't start as an SO. Of course you'll need to buy an A320/330 rating, or B787 when they start getting those.

You became a scab though......
Maybe before you start quacking, Toilet Duck, you ought to read a bit more carefully, and quit jumping to conclusions before you call someone a "scab"
Reading comprehension is a wonderful thing.

Skygirl, my thoughts exactly.
Or he could just go back to pprune. Mate, you don't know squat so just keep your mouth bloody well shut. You know nothing about th 89ers, nothing about QF, nothing much period. I can't figure out half your posts, and from many of the responses, neither can anyone else. This site is excellent, full of professionals with professional attitudes to match. Try not to spoil it.
What a useless, ignorant, immature bloody comment. Keep it to yourself or take it elsewhere.
