flyingnm,

From the information I have, during initial new hire training, AirAsia will provide accommodations and transportation to/from the training center for a period of 1 month. After that, you are on your own. Also during this period, you will share a company apartment with 2 other trainees as well. It's basically a bridge to get you on your feet in Malaysia.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck!

Thanks, Buddro...it does indeed help. Thanks for the reply!

Capt: After tax about USD100K. Only about half of that is guaranteed though. The rest is flight/sector pay. If you don't fly, for whatever reason, you'll only get the guaranteed pay.

Controlled Rest. That is incorrect that they only hire Malaysians. They hire many foreign pilots. I know of three personally from different aircraft, that were hired there (747, 737 and A330 First Officers) that were Canadian, British, and Czech citizens over the past 18 months. Who they will NOT hire (unofficially) are US citizens. This i know for a fact from higher up corporate folks. RJ Cruiser, if you are a US citizen, do not waste your time or money trying to interview. You have been warned if you try and go otherwise. No US citizen has ever passed the interview.

I beg to differ. I personally know of a US citizen that was hired on as a direct entry Captain. So your assumption is INCORRECT. So a "higher up" told you, "psst, don't say anything but DONT hire US pilots." Utterly preposterous!

Urge, if you read my post you'll see that I said they only hire Malaysians for FO spots. That comes from their own advertising. Surely your wide-body FO friends went as captains.

Right you are regarding FOs. I am applying for the Direct Enrty Captain position. In fact I have been invited to interview!

Urge,

Are you sure about your statements here? Really....are you sure?

I am a born and raised US Citizen who passed the interview and got a job offer! And YES it's for a DEC position! I will TELL YOU that you are 100% completely WRONG in your statement!

Just because you or someone you know didn't get through the process doesn't mean ALL US Citizens will fail!

You may want to check with your source again!

Unreal!

He was quoting the statement about FO hiring of US citizens and NOT DEC positions. Does anybody have any other facts to back this up? My experience in Asia is most airlines prefer DEC hiring and the FO hiring is usually a Cadet program made up of the local nationalities. Don't be so hasty to criticize until you read and understand what he was saying.

EXPAT1,

Not so fast...I've seen his BS in the past. NEVER ONCE did he say anything about the position being for an FO slot at AirAsia, he's making a blanket statement, and I'm telling him 100% he's wrong!

Here is one thread he put up a few months ago: http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/fo...tml#post962685

Oh, and another: http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/fo...tml#post984024

Point being if he's talking of an FO slot he needs to mention it. He is simply making a blanket statement of " if you are a US citizen, do not waste your time or money trying to interview. You have been warned if you try and go otherwise. No US citizen has ever passed the interview"

Do you see where I'm coming from now?

urge 07-17-2011 03:06 PM

Buddro,

Congrats, since you are the first US citizen to have been hired there. Want to confirm, that you were also living in the US at the time as well? And no dual citzenship? Are you single? Looking to see what made you the exception. The friend that i know that did not pass, actually hung out with the SV of Flight Ops for the entire time of the interview, and stayed next door. He did well but got the feedback on why. No US citizens. I just fired off an email and the latest states, Air Asia is loosening up their stance because other contracts are starting to pay alot more and opening up to commuting possibilities, so Air Asia is getting minimal qualfiied apps. Buddro, how long ago did you get hired? If you were living in the US at the time of interview, with no Dual citizenship and are married, this would be a major change for Air Asia hiring.
