Jet Fuel,
I just got the call/email for the interview in NYC next month as well. I was all excited until I checked out this thread. I had heard how good a company they were from pilot friends, and reading about them on the internet - but I can't see committing my wife + 3 kids to 6+ years in HK before I start logging a single SIC hour?!?!?! and 10 years before I can bid back to the states. I'm all for getting the family the international experience but we were hoping for 2-3 years, not 10.

If you get any new info, I'd love to hear about it. Good luck to you regardless.

Default SO interview in NY

I have an interview with Cathay as well in Aug 2011 and I would like to network with someone who works at Cathay to learn more about the company and how this could affect my career.

My email is [email protected] if anyone has a few minutes of time. It would mean a lot, im a female pilot so I have questions about that as well. Every country is different. All of this is new to me coming from a US regional airline.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Mika

A little over 3800 MEJ total, 2500 PIC - military.

I gotta tell you - I am truly blessed with an outstanding family. I told them about all the negative stuff about Cathay I was reading about on this thread. I thought I would have to drag them into even thinking about it - but my wife has been researching CX and Hong Kong all day! All she can talk about is the great things that are there. Spending 6-10 years over there doesn't seem to phase her in the slightest.... the only negative I've heard from them is that my oldest son isn't too enthusiastic about being a senior for a second year in their 13 year school system!! lol

Now if I can only get her to put all that info into powerpoint format so I can study for the pre-interview!!

Turtle,
All due respect b/c I don't know your situation, but after a year of your wife hanging out with the other CX wives(they all do), and seeing how nice they have it in their lovely homes PAID FOR by cx, she will not be a happy camper. I promise.
Best Regards

Correction, they are only hiring regional F/O's, they are the only ones applying

You guys and gals want to stay as far away from CX as possible!!! The CEO is the same as the previous. It gets worse everyday at CX and, you like many, will regret ever joining CX. Pilots are quitting everyday and the mass exodus has just begun.

More like 2 days... after you move into your 1 bedroom closet in the slums of Kowloon and you guys have to share one plate of noodles for dinner shes not gonna be to into HKG anymore.
I have to honest, if you have 3 kids and a wife you have to be out of your mind to drag them to HKG for the terms they have going.
Do you know what you will be making and what it costs for an APT in Kowloon, let alone HKG island.
