Tell me more about this 6 yrs as SO? Also does no T/O or LDN mean?
What do you mean not type you? You are saying I act as a crewmember and don't log time? That's illegal no way. Also is the $10,000 housing yearly does that just pay for rent?

Help me out here I need more info

Thanks
Second Officers DO NOT DO ANY TAKE OFF OR LANDINGS. You will be a cruise pilot and will only talk on the radio, do the fuel check and all other paper work that needs to be done, you will also make the bunck for the pilots....you will not even do a walkaround. CX will not issue you a Type Rating, so you have nothing...all your Take Off and Landings are done in SIM. Like I said it doesn't matter who you are or how many hours you have....THEY WILL HIRE YOU AS ICADET...so that they don't have to pay you...

Would be interesting to go to the interview fully prepared, do well, then in the part where they say, "Do you have any questions for us?" ask them: Is it true I'll never do a takeoff or a landing? Is it true I'll be an indentured servant to the company for at least the next 6 years? Is it true I won't get paid enough to live in a cardboard box in HK?

Several years ago I was really interested in CX. Seemed like a great career company. For those that joined at that time, I suppose it still is. Was even invited to an interview in CYVR. Other factors intervened and I declined the interview. Bummer to see them now attempting to attract talent with these shoddy T&C's.

Flyin-Finn

Yes I would be joining with prior airline experience. So I guess I would be in the short/accelerated cadet course.
So my understanding is CX gives you a loan for 1.1M and you pay it back 220,000K over a 6 year period and this is considered to be the training contract? After 6 years if you are still with the company you get 880,000k to keep.

So what actually is the take home pay first year as a SO? Also how long will I be based in Hong Kong before I can bid back to the States?
Whats the upgrade time to FO?

So if you are not fully typed then do you log any flight time?

Is this for real that you will pay 25k to 30 k for a place each month and you are only given 10,000k? That's BS

I'm getting the point Mink that CX treats you like a regional airline. 10 years ago probably not. I can't believe they don't pay there pilots enough to survive, exspecially being in hong kong a long ways away from the States. I can see why this company is not for everyone. You would probably be better off at Delta or Jet Blue these CX with these terms and conditions.

I'm definitely not going to sit in Hong Kong for 6 years and not fly. If I ever wanted to leave the company I would be stuck saying oh I haven't flown a airplane in 6 years. Like you guys were saying I don't think any airline would hire you after working at this company if you haven't flown the airplane and especially since you never received a full type rating.

Looks like you only want Flyin-Finn to answer your question....I hate to see you make the biggest mistake in your life.

1. Pay
Rank Yea Salary
Hourly Duty Pay 84 Hours HKPA Total
Second Officer 1 $35,170 $3,517 $10,000 $48,687

2.Time to upgrade to FO......6+ Yrs to become JFO, God knows how long to FO.
3. Time to be based in U.S...Good Luck with that, you have to be a FO to be able to bid an outport base, than they have to have opening, so you might be looking at 10+ Yrs, maybe longer.

3.log flight time....I don't know what to tell you.....They will issue you whats called P2X, or PX2 what ever they call it now, it only a endorsement in your file and not recognize any where in the world...They don't even give you a SIC type.

4. $10,000 HKG for housing is BS.....Yea its BS....good luck finding anything for that amount, if you do I will pay your rent for 12 month....why do you think CX is having tough time finding people... Top housing for Senior Captain 7 and above HK$36,000. That how much a SO who was hired 3 yrs ago is getting, and Senior Captain is getting $100K+...I don't know how old you are but you are looking at 20 to 25+yrs to upgrade to Capt.

5. If you do leave before the 6 yr time....you owe CX 1.1 million HKG dollar, not just $880,000.

I hope this help.

Yeah not flying a airplane for 6 years doesn't seem pleasuring to me. I think I would rather fly 3-5 legs a day and at least be in my home country. I'm young but I'm not dumb. I wont make a stupid decision either. I think having a training contract and not having any type rating is BS. I don't know how you guys can take a job there. Good Talk

Jet Fuel,

FDX pays our guys in HKG $33,750/mo (HK Dollars assuming 7.5 to 1) living expenses/rent.

Just for comparison.....
