Block time over 10 hours is 3 pilots
Block time over 14 hours is 4 pilots
Some trips between 8-10 hours could be 3 pilots, i.e. PVG-DXB in the winter.
EK does have an official controlled rest in the flight deck policy which allows one pilot to sleep (theoretically for 40 minutes at a time). In practice you hash it out with your partner and sleep as much as you need. Would it be better to have 3 pilots? = absolutely, but on a 9 hour single leg night flight it was reasonable fatigue mitigation.
The major problem with Emirates and the others is not so much the individual trips but the cumulative fatigue. For instance you do a DXB-Perth-DXB, then off 3 days and follow it up with a DXB-LAX-DXB in the opposite direction. Shortly after that you do a night turn to Mumbai that leaves at 10pm.,,,,,and so on and so on.

Honestly guys I was thinking I could go here for a few years to get out of debt. The student loans have me in a head lock!! So the thrill of being debt free, with a wide body type rating has me contemplating EK. First year Pay is what, $100k? Where else can I go to make this type of money the first year?

Okay guys help me out and be very blunt with me. Why go fly for a regional when you can fly a triple 7 or a 380 and make twice as much money? What am I missing? Shiny jet and tons of cash is one of the reasons we got in this business right?

If you are lucky enough to get hired by Emirates and are willing to work hard, the money is very good. The $100k you will earn is tax free. In addition, you will get modern housing and transportation to/from work. Dubai is super safe and very luxurious. You can easily save $4k a month if you don't waste money even with a family. Yes, if you get hired by Delta or United then don't go to EK but if they're not calling then EK is a good option. You won't starve and will live quite comfortably.

Do it. It's really a chance of a lifetime. Look into Qatar also, they pay a lot more than Emirates and a better company. If you like it there and do well, the possibilities are endless. Senior Captains in Qatar make over $350k tax free with 15 days off plus 10% 401k type pension with no matching required.
