Low hour FO, about 1800 total with 600 in the A320 family. Looking for the latest T&C. I was also thinking about Asiana and Tiger in Singapore. I need to make a move, wife is not happy here (south America, she is Asian). Looking for some advice from those with more experience like Dominican and Typhoonpilot.

Thanks in advance,

MDT

You could use EVA or China Airlines as a stepping stone or you could go to an A320 operator that has an upgrade program. You may need a little more time to qualify for some of these, but look at:

Air Arabia
Etihad
Qatar Airways

SilkAir
Tiger
JetStar Asia
Air Asia

Dom will know about the Japanese carriers.

Another choice besides the fore mentioned by TP, I would also suggest that regardless of the fact you might be bellow some of these companies published minimums, go ahead and apply anyways, let them be the ones to turn you down, don't do it for them. Also, make sure that you tell them about YOU! Many of these applications have the option to download an auto bio and I see people leave them unfilled, the bio is a great opportunity to sell yourself, use it, you have a compelling reason as to why you want to come work in Asia, tell them about it, this will let them know that you are not just looking for a temporary gig but rather would like a new life in Asia. Good luck in your job search.

TP and Dominican, thanks for the information. I'll be traveling to SE Asia in two weeks to see her family. We are planning to take a look at Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam. I'll be taking my resume plus last sim records and hoping something positive turns out.

Still looking for Eva's T&C. I was able to get Tiger's, Qatar's, Etihad's, Air Arabia.

Thanks again,

MDT

Silk Air is currently not hiring. Hiring will resume sometime in mid 2013 with the numbers unknown. SQ still has a surplus of cadets waiting to be placed and most likely it will be with Silk.

I'm flying with a ex SQ cadet. He said that SQ made a deal with Qatar and that a bunch of SQ B777 F.O.s are going to take a 3 year leave and go to Qatar. Possibly as many as 40.

Yap, those FOs took a voluntary LOA for up to 3 years. Some have gone to EK, QR and even to EVA while many have taken the LOA to join Silk/Scoot.

They've got a pretty good deal like the SAS guys whom kept their seniority. The surplus of cadets that I've mentioned was those still in Adelaide and those that left on LOA was an experienced FOs..

Qantas guys had a similar deal, we have a few of them in training now and for what I understand, some went to the ME as well.

Is an A320 type rating required for Tiger Airways and Jetstar Singapore?

Yes, in both cases. Jetstar, however, don't 'officially' require 500 on type, like most Airbus operators over here. Just 500 in a multi crew modern jet.

That said, you'd be nuts to go to Jetstar, if you can go to Tiger (or just about anywhere else, frankly). Jetstar are hiring for their up coming launch in Hong Kong, also. However, significant discussion is occurring locally, on the subject of how long it will last. Singapore doesn't come close to HK when it comes to upstart competition, from CX, HKA, HKE and all the mainland carriers.

I reckon they'll get schooled. Upstarts don't have the best reputations for success in HK.

Anyhow, I digress. I hope I've answered your questions. If you're interested in those two, have a peep at Air Asia. A good, secure career can be had there for sure.
