Default WCC at SNA

Anybody here know anything about West Coast Charters at SNA? I know they fly King Airs there, but what about schedules, QOL, pay, etc.?

They are hurting for FO's based on the continuous posting on Climb to 350. They say that the FO pay is 30,000 with a 5 on 2 off schedule. They also pay 100 per day over 18, and 200 per day for working a day off. I don't really know anything about QOL because this information all comes from the job posting.

WCC is short King Air Captains and Co Pilots. They do hire street captains with significant turbine experience. With little or no turbine, you will be hired as a copilot. Once a copilot has an appropriate experience level, upgrade is based on merit. Because of the short staffing, you will fly alot, both number of days and hours flown, and have anywhere from 3-12 or more RON's per month. They have recently been upping pay for pilots because they have been increasingly unable to attract applicants and retain employees.

You will have a schedule--copilots get 4 hard days off per month, and captains have more of a 5 on 2 off, with I think 1 stretch of 3 days off per month. If your days off fall during a "blackout" period---usually the week surrounding a holiday, or the 2 weeks around XMAS/New Years, you are on "reserve", and can be called in to fly, however, they will pay you extra for working a "day off". This means you will not have any hard days off during any holiday period.

Most of the King Air flying is done under Pt 135. They only train/qualify copilots for Pt 135 in the King Air 200's, but most of their flying is done in KA 350's. This is a big "gotcha" for copilots as copilots cannot log the vast majority of their flight time at WCC. For that reason, if you are coming in as a copilot, make sure you already have a couple thousand hours of total time, and I would say ~500 multi....because you won't be adding very much flight time to your logbook until/unless you upgrade.

Pay for Captains has gone just above $50,000/yr.

Why would anyone do that when they could fly P180s for Avantair out of the LA area with more time off (6-7 days off in a row) at roughly the same pay? The King Air is nice but I'd rather fly a P180 if I were given the choice. Then again, I'd probably just apply to Netjets (based out of LAX) and go fly something faster...

I don't know why! It's probably alot easier to get hired at WCC than at Avantair? I think Netjets, FLOPS, etc. are out of reach for most pilots with WCC co-pilot qualifications.

I don't work for WCC nor am I promoting them. I think the best reason for a relatively experienced pilot to go to work for WCC as a copilot would be in hopes of a relatively short upgrade (<1 year?).

Nothing wrong with flying a nice B350 (Pro Line 21 version) around the West Coast and into the Rockies. A year or two flying that bird will prepare anyone for a fractional career to say the least.
