Default Do I stand a chance?

I have been dragging my feet on paying for an ATP in hopes that I would get one for free with the regional I work for. Given the state of the industry I went from being less than 80 guys away from an upgrade to probably at least another two years before an upgrade. With a Delta/Northwest merger around the corner and the combining of regionals in the transaction I am feeling more and more like I am the one to blame for my current situation.

While 121 flying isn't bad, I definitely don't want to do this forever. I have 3000 TT, 2000 Turbine SIC 121. I have been eyeing NetJets for the past year, however I realize there are thousands of resumes on file there. Given the amount of apps on file, would I even be looked at if I got the ATP and applied? I have many contacts inside that would write a letter for me including Pilots and Admin staff.

They can't shoot you for trying, right??

I think you realize you're comparatively underqualified compared to guys getting hired there, but why not get the letters of recommendation, and go for it??

I've heard they are hiring all kinds of guys, not just high time turbine PIC types. They aren't looking so much at hours as other factors that would make you a good fit with their team and owners. Can't hurt to try. If you don't apply, you'll never know. Plus, with how long it's taking them to go through resumes now, put yours in, and just keep updating it. Who knows, maybe you will upgrade at your current gig before they even get to you at NetJets.

Again, do not determine the quality of new hire based on whining in this forum.

NJ is like UAL pre-911, you never know whe they're going to call. During the interview process, you might see some guys with 6000+ hrs, some with 3000, and a couple right at mins. How they choose us, who the hell knows.

Pinch your nose and dive right into the pool, don't worry about swiming faster than the rest, let Netjets decide that.

Spaceman,

I'm a clown. Underqualified means underqualified, I was spring loaded to shoot back. Just tired of reading the threads bashing NJA b/c they are not hiring the "perfect" candidate.

I have friends hired with less time than you have. Apply and see what happens. Flight time is not that important if guys with 10k hrs gets turned down. It's all customer service.

Ref the ATP-you can get it in a Cessna 172. It's much cheaper that way, and it's the same liscence. Nobody at my airline even noticed that my ATP was for single engine until I upgraded to Capt. on the 737 and the check captain wasn't sure how to fill out the paperwork.
