Default Age barrier?

I know an older retired airline guy who is interested in working for the fractionals. He asked me if there was an age limit. I know that the fractionals don't publish an age limit, but what is the practical age limit?

I personally know pilots who were hired at age 60 by the fracs.

1. Do you personally know anyone older than that when they were hired?

2. How old were they?

Several Capts. at my airline dumped by the inane Age-60 rule went directly to Netjets.

We have a couple of guys still flying at 70+. They love the experienced guys that won't be around all that long to make the bigger money that is possible as you move up in longevity. The biggest obstacle for him may be currency if he has been retired for a while. As much as they love hiring older guys, they won't touch them if they haven't been flying something recently- it probably wouldn't matter if it was only a 172, but they have to be fairly current in some sort of airplane.

In my new hire class, there were 3 retired airline guys.....the oldest of which was 63. If you are current in something, then you have a very good shot at getting hired.

I have a client who was a TWA captain, and when the merge occurred, he took early retirement, went to NetJets (where he was very happy) and flew up to 65. The guy was, and still is, in great mental and physical shape. It would have been criminal if he would have had to hang up his wings. You can probably find him mountain biking in the Peruvian Andes now...LOL

Okay, I know that there are pilots as old as 73 still flying for the fracs...however, my question was about the age when hired.

Thanks!

My client, the former TWA captain, was in his late 50's when he went to NetJets. He didn't want to fly for American, so when the merge occurred, he opted for early retirement and Net Jets grabbed him up. I think he's about 67 now and he definitely could still be flying if he wanted to. He flew up until he was 65. Last time he stopped in my office, he said that he had just retired and was taking his Harley on a tour of Baja...LOL...
