I get that. Totally.

But what about when you have a 20 minute wait for a gate? Or you are number 15 for takeoff in LGA? You just keep em burning?

I agree we have a vested interest in the continued success of the company and will do anything I can to ensure that, but the Cone Cloud is a very graphic expression of short term thinking.
An attempt to save an APU start and 50lbs of Jet A results in at least, hundreds of thousands of dollars of AoG, schedule disruption et al.
How many times is this multiplied if someone has to wash Dudley out of the hot section of a LEAP 1a...
Many stations won’t even approach an aircraft with a beacon on.
The problem is that stations aren’t performing to the level we need. APU start can be 10 prior to push and run for less than 5 once we’ve blocked in. That’s what it was designed for, and what other operators do. Right now we’re being asked to comply with what is in effect an APU inop profile...
I do hope they can revisit this policy and move this particular opportunity for savings back to the station, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel here, just ensure everyone is doing their job....

Not just "on your conscience"
When the company throws you under the bus for engine damage let alone someone's life

I’m ok with single engine taxiing to the gate with the APU on, have them hook up then kill the APU. Read the the engine tailpipe fire procedures. You need a bleed source to assist in putting it out good luck getting someone to hookup high pressure air at that point.

Amazing! BL's memo mentioned "safety" an astounding ZERO times.

Has anyone brought this up?

Not to mention that there actually was a post-shutdown tailpipe fire event in the not too distant past.

Although I share your concerns as well, regarding ingesting a romper. This is not re-inventing the wheel, rather returning to how we used to do things. During bankruptcy, we waited until the very end to use the APU, single engine taxi with cross-bleed, and no APU on landing. I recently traveled to Europe and rode an ULCC there, they don’t ever use their APU. They do indeed have good, trained ground staff. I have no problem returning to how we did things, but I would also like to see a little investment in ground personnel.

So if you:

• "share concerns"
• compare to Europe but then immediately concede they have good ground staff.
• Know full well "a little investment in ground personnel" will never happen.

Do you plan to go back to "how we used to do things"?

What does any of this have to do with the new jacket option? Either go start a thread on the subject, or start talking about jackets. This thread, as so many before them, have gone off the rails. Let’s at least make a mediocre attempt at keeping our house clean on APC.

Oh look, a thread about the new jacket! Nope, it’s APU usage. Crazy pills.

What if the next reply would’ve been about jackets instead of thread drift? Now you’ve gone and ruined that opportunity to rejoin the threadalizer.
