So is the upgrade time realistic barring another catastrophe. I’m 52 and not sure it worth the massive pay cut I’d have to take.

Currently at 4 years on the nose. Was 3 then Rona. 3rd year FO pay is $120 right now tops out at $170 at year 12. What airline are you coming from where that’s a paycut?

I think he means from maybe Regional CA to first year Frontier FO. I know personally it’s about a 25K cut for me.

The first year cut I can understand. ‘21 rates are $59.97 year one and $111.92 year two. Add in 15% DC for your 401k starting next year and I would think you are back to where you were. It’s a small step back for a much larger upside in my opinion.

If F9's first year pay is only a $25k paycut for you, the 2nd year should be a $25k pay RAISE. Break even after year 2 and it's all blue sky after that.

I’m on the other side. Super mid charter. It’s like a 100k hit. I just don’t know if I have the time to recover the loss. Especially if the upgrade time isn’t realistic. Thanks for the replies.

You can be a little more tactful and respectful about that too. ^

A 100k cut is a lot for a year or two. Now, knowing you can make what you make now as a 2/3 year FO if you work a bit extra should make it easier to make the switch. Working extra as a year 4/6 ca will get you in the 250/300k range plus 15% DC. I don’t think we have hired our most junior captain yet based purely on firm orders alone.

Hope this helps and hope you make the best choice for yourself and more importantly your family.

Maybe you don’t have the time, but don’t forget the DC. I worked for one of the top 135s out there making about $150k back in 2014-2016. While it was a decent salary the retirement couldn’t touch F9s.
DC is about $23,000 the first two years at min guarantee for someone hired today.

Thanks I appreciate the info. The retirement is a huge reason to switch to 121. One of the main reasons I am looking to make the move. That and schd and upgrade time. I’ll be sure to let them know my concerns about my pay cut during MY interview!
