What airlines are hiring?
I would like to know what Majors/Nationals are hiring or planed hiring for 2011. It seems a lot of guys are not hanging around for 65 and growth and rest rules are creating a demand for hiring. Please post what hiring numbers at your airline you have heard.

I'll check in here from UPS. Pilots are flying until 65. Not many checking out early. One Billion profit per quarter and we have 109 pilots on furlough. They are taking some of that profit for fighting the rest rule changes. UPS hates the proposal (and they only hire pilots out of absolute necessity). Hiring? Who knows, rumor is not until 2012.

SWA hired 200 (out of the pool) 1st quarter of this year; rumor out of their training department (unconfirmed) is for 200 more this year. No mention of when the app window might open.
My understanding (I could be wrong) is no more hiring at AirTran.

I think it is a short list if you do count who is hiring. Other than Regionals not many of the legacy airlines are picking people up. SWA (200 Maybe), Fedex (200 maybe), Delta (200 maybe). That is not exactly a hiring boom if you ask me. Especially when each airline is getting 5000+ apps.
So it is a valid question to ask who is actually hiring and when. Here is to hoping the keep open the trickle they have now and the future remains bright

Basically, unless oil shoots up and stays very high, they will ALL be hiring this year (except maybe UPS). AA will even be hiring. Even USAIr is already hiring. CAL would have already been hiring, but isn't because of the merger. Once that is done, hiring will commence as soon as they get the recalls done, which won't take long, as the return rates off of recall will be the lowest UAL has ever seen.
Flight/Duty/Rest rules go into effect by 1 Aug. It will DRASTICALLY affect the regionals. The regionals are already having large problems getting enough guys in class. They will have to cancel flights, and if mainline wants the PAX, mainline will have to pick up the slack.
As I said, all bets are off, in the short term, depending on the MD/oil situation.
Long-term, with the ATP requirement, the growing demand for pilots overseas, and all of the Age 65 retirements, pilots will be in short supply. DAL has to replace 900 pilots in one of the their calendar years due to retirements!!!
