2009 Zagat awards

URL = http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2009-11-24-
Two small airlines –Virgin America and Midwest Airlines – received the highest scores of all U.S. airlines in Zagat Survey's annual poll, in which the travel and dining guide publisher asks fliers to rate how well 16 U.S. and 66 foreign airlines delivered on comfort, service and food.
CHART: Airline ratings
This year's assessment comes from 5,900 fliers, who averaged 17 flights a year and booked most of them on airline websites. About 60% of the flights were for business. The results show a "gradual, mild increase" in satisfaction with U.S. airlines, says Zagat Survey CEO Tim Zagat.
"Consumers feel some marginal improvement in comfort and service," Zagat says. "The bad news is that the major domestic airlines are becoming more and more like Greyhound buses in the sky."
Big U.S. airlines such as American, Delta and United scored poorly in the survey, found at Zagat Survey. JetBlue was named the top large U.S. airline for coach passengers, scoring 19 points on Zagat's 30-point scale. JetBlue's score was 2 points lower than the 21 scores of Virgin America and Midwest.

I connect often to Skywest operated Midwest flights and the difference is definitely noticeable.

When you replace a Thoroughbred with a Donkey, you get less of a ride but it's a lot cheeper. Guess the same thing applies to airlines that come in and replace the best with sub par. I just hope that RAH crews don't think it is them that won these awards.

I would sincerely hope that none would take credit - they would be a fool if they did, and 99.9% of us would agree. Obviously it's the Midwest crews on their aircraft that achieved it. I can't wait to read any response from the Crystal Palace next year when the new rankings come out. I see no way the Midwest brand (other than name alone) can be retained with the current operation... It's truly a shame to see it disappear.

You can call it stirring the hornets nest, but it's a real issue facing the Republic, Frontier and Midwest pilots.
A number of people have said the Midwest Brand will be shutdown. Rev BB bought/merged Republic with Midwest for the loyality of airline passengers to Midwest as this award shows.
I think this is a fair question for discussion on a webborad like APC.
If one Brand is shutdown how will it effect Midwest and/or Frontier? Are these awards of any value? Can you run two airlines like it's being done today?
ps. Republic has been running 50% or more of Midwest in the last year and the airline ("Brand") still tied Virgin America for first place.

Service standards not financial. I ride a couple times a month and the service isn't even comparable to real Midwest. I hate the EMB's. Never enough overhead storage, the seats are the worst I've encountered. The plane is loud. The Flight Attendants are lazy. The flight crews seem reluctant to turn off the seat belt sign. I've flown numerous 1:30-2:00 flights with the SB sign on the entire flight. I can only recall 1 time in my career where I needed to keep the SB sign on the entire flight and that was going from ATL to BOS with a large tropical depression centered over the Chesapeake Bay.
