Gojet was doing very well with the 550 prior to Covid and slated to get another 20 for a total of 74 planes. Sounds like United very happy with Gojet. With limited resources why go with anyone else?

I think the concern boils down to GoJet having long term sustainability. TSH has shut two airlines down since COVID began. UA wants to protect its investment. Further, pre-COVID the 550 was unproven but appeared to be working. Can the same be said post-COVID?

Business travel will be important for the 550 and Gojet. Meanwhile TSH can concentrate on one airline and doing what it can to survive until travel improves. That’s probably what United is looking for in Gojet and TSH.

Yes, one issue with those business travelers is that they have flocked to the 135/fractional side of aviation. Turns out for a few hundred dollars more a year you can buy the Jetcard instead keeping that Double Diamond/ Premier 1K status. The benefit being the planes leaves when you want it to and little or no other pax share your cabin.

My own personal opinion is that any reality in aviation that existed in January 2020 is completely up for change now. United is going to have to think long and hard about a year (or more) of significantly repressed business and international travel.

Because of scope limits and what appears to me to be a significant unwillingness on the part of UA ALPA to bend on that issue, some 76 seaters will have to go for a long time. One could say that the 550s advantage lies in the fact that it is more resistant to scope limits than the 175s are, but preserve the existence of premium seats whereas the CRJ2/145 don't.

I think some regional is going to disappear or possibly even two as a result of scope limits and long term traffic declines. And I'm absolutely not convinced it will be my airline (ZW) who survives, but what I do think for certain is that it will be ultimately about who can operate the aircraft for cheap. Whatever UA liked about GJ 4 months ago doesn't matter much anymore imo.

Makes sense, good points. Thinking Gojet in best position for 50 seat market (how ever long that market may last) due to proven product, even though super short tract record. Positives for Gojet if continued to be given the opportunity - United and its passengers liked it, can grow the fleet economically (to a certain extent) and only airframe to focus on with plenty of pilots to hire. What ever demand is needed could be met relatively easy.

I find it interesting that so many people make comments on what is happening with a company that they don't work with, just come up with rumors just because they can? Last year there was a prediction, by some, that GoJet was closing up shop. This was announced just before GoJet announced they would be flying the 550 for United.

If you bothered reading my last line, I stated that only time will tell what will happen in the next 6 months. I'm just trying to counter all the nay sayers out there. Most leave comments in multiple forums and act as if they know what is going on, (my personal opinion is they still live with their parents, play MS Flight Simulator and just love to troll people.) I'm not saying that is what you do, but I do question, do you work for GoJet or another Airline. So should people believe what you say about a company you have no connection with?

Maybe I wasn't clear about the the type certificate. I didn't mean to imply that GoJet owns it, but rather GoJet is the only one United is permitting to use it. GoJet did come up with the idea, and at the present time United is only allowing GoJet to fly the aircraft. I

United doesn’t own the 550 airframe/classification/whatever you want to call it either, that’s really not how airframes work (see above post from another user... I think ninerdriver)

Also, gojet is not the one who came up with the 550 style CRJ...
There were rumblings at OO about a 50 seat CRJ700 experiment LONG before it was the 550 and before GoJet had the opportunity to fly it. Why do you think the majority of these 550’s are owned by SkyWest Inc?

But it’s not a big deal.
Most captains (at all companies) will tell gullible FO’s a ton of fake war stories and false rumors just to get a rise out of people and see how quickly they’ll carry. There have been threads about that exact subject.

Hence the cool-aid I was talking about.

Ok sir, it's a forum about GoJet, not a forum of, by and for GoJet. We are all just discussing for real.

Bombardier had been shopping the 50 seat 700 around for interest for a long time, they were looking to sell new 50 seat planes after the crj line shutdown.

If air Wisconsin doesn’t get any of the 550s they will need to “guppy” their 200s to stay alive. Deuce Lifter.
