Mesa or Gojet

I'm trying to decided between Mesa and Gojet. Here's my situation.

I can move wherever I want. I'm single.
I do not care about upgrade time.
I prefer west coast flying.

The kicker. I didn't take my ATP written. I've enrolled in Aerosims ground school next month, which I paid 5K for. Gojet just announced they are offering the course. With a 5k bonus.

Would it be a better choice to get a refund (5k in my pocket) or just go to Mesa?

FaceBiter 12-18-2014 09:56 PM

At least GoJet will give you 5k, Mesa will give you a 40-50% chance of a pink slip.

Facebitten 12-18-2014 10:08 PM

Facebiter i challenge you to make at least 3 productive posts per day.

rcfd13 12-19-2014 12:20 AM

If you can move wherever you want and you prefer west coast flying GoJet shouldn't even be an option. All East coast in the winter through some of the most delayed airports with no cancellation pay? No Thanks.

I seriously doubt we will have a 40-50% failure rate at Mesa.

BrewCity 12-19-2014 05:05 AM

If you want to live out west and you don't care about chasing an upgrade, why not Horizon?

Compass, Trans States, and Skywest are hiring for Western bases too. All pay better than Mesa or Gojet.

Pilottim79 12-19-2014 05:32 AM

This question is like, hey guys water boarding or prison sex.

This is not a question where I can give you an answer that would bring you any kind of happiness or joy.

crflyer 12-19-2014 05:37 AM

Why are there so many faces being
bitten...

Farmlover 12-19-2014 05:39 AM

Endeavor is hiring . Msp base does some west flying, not much tho.
You get 30k bonus. Worth a look I would think.

John2375 12-19-2014 05:42 AM

A friend of mine is currently in training at GoJet;
he said they plan on increasing their west coast flying (currently they have ABQ and Missoula and Denver for frequent destinations)
However he also said that $5k bonus hasn't happened yet and is likely to be taken away.
just fyi

Don't count on GoJets to hold up on any of the promises they hand out. Place is a dumpster fire. Is your friend lonely being the only guy in training?

If you don't care about upgrade time why consider either? There are better places to be a perma-FO.

Except for APC... there is only room for one PermaFo :D

RB211 12-19-2014 08:05 AM

Pick one, when you flunk training, the other will take you.

Xdashdriver 12-19-2014 09:21 AM

I had a GoJet FO in my Mesa class, if that says anything. Mesa's pass rate is around 90%. Pay no attention to Facebiter, he's just stirring the pot. He missed his calling, he should have been a reporter.

This is accurate. I don't know what one would have to do to fail at Mesa.

Um, not meet the standard? It's just like any other regional. Not everyone gets to be an airline pilot.

John2375 12-19-2014 12:36 PM

LOL

90% pass rate is false. And there's plenty of ways to "fail" at Mesa just like any place.

RgrMurdock 12-19-2014 12:38 PM

I thought this was a troll thread

Timma 12-19-2014 12:39 PM

I don't know why anyone would work at go jet..

Some say 90%, some say 50%.
So reality must be somewhere in between!

Just relax. It's only your career.

TalkTurkey 12-19-2014 01:16 PM

#PenAir is hiring I think

Filler

DennisEdwards 12-19-2014 01:18 PM

I think Mesa is a good option. GoJet is a scab operation anyway.

Freedom2 12-19-2014 04:30 PM

Isn't that like a Mr. Rothchild asking, Buchenwald or Auschwitz? I guess each would have its advantages or disadvantages over the other but is it a choice you really have to make or want to make? I don't know much about Mesa but from what I read it has its problems.

The 5K that G J is offering will be lost in a few months by the lack of work rules. If it takes you 20 days of working to get 85 hours of credit you might get 95 - 120 somewhere else. Am I correct on that Skywest and other guys?

Send me a PM and I will send you information on G J from the former regional manager's perspective as well as that of others, and you can add that into your decision tree. If West Coast is important to you then G J does not have anything for you. If you are a Northern WI or Minn guy and like the cold then you might like G J since most of its flying is in the north.

Not totally true, especially in recent times. A 121 failure(or any failure) isn't nearly the kiss of death people assume it is. Whether you want to believe it or not, LCCs and Majors are hiring folks with failures "outside" of any flows. Some have had multiple failures...they make for learning experiences and I think it comes off more genuine and humble at times in the interview.

FaceBiter 12-19-2014 09:22 PM

Sure you're not getting major airlines and PSA confused?

Pretty much. These are two of the worst regionals out there. SkyWest or Compass would be a much better choice.

Absolutely sure. You will see more of it at both levels soon.

Bet they paid a homeless guy to stay in the hotel room with him so it would still be double occupancy.

Lol..
well he did have a single occupancy room while others had double.
He was glad because he was going to pay half in order to have a single but didn't have to after all.

Yeah because being an 8 year Skywest FO is so much better than being a 2 year Mesa CA.....

ELOHEL'ed.

If majors adopt the hiring practices of Mesa and PSA I'll eat my words. Until then I'll just LOL.

Pilottim79 12-21-2014 06:57 AM

I love how all these 9 year FOs are convincing themselves that TPIC doesn't matter. They site like one or two guys that are friends of friends that got hired at Delta without TPIC. Little do they know that guy was like 3 generation legacy.

Look, is TPIC necessary? Probably not, but you are fooling yourself if you don't think TPIC puts you ahead of someone without it. Thinking PIC time being prefered is antiquated is just silly and inaccurate.

FaceBiter 12-21-2014 07:15 AM

Uhhhh. Weren't we talking about how "easy" it is to get hired at majors with part 121 training failures? (LOL) Stay on track timmah.

Every time someone refers to GJ as a burning dumpster fire, I laugh hard.
