1. Stay away from bad people and surround yourself with winners and positive individuals. If I have to explain what a bad person is, you're in the wrong industry.
2. If your crew is violating the alcohol policy, delay the next flight. Call in sick yourself if your crewmember refuses to take themselves off or delay.
3. If there's a scheduling problem that's not your fault...such as on a checkride, too bad, don't accept the schedule change and bust your checkride.
4. Make sure you get a hotel during training. Distractions are a career killer.
5. Have your life in order and minimize distractions during training.
6. Show up to training prepared. Study ahead of time if you can.
7. Flight attendants aren't worth it. Stay away.
8. Nothing is confidential. No one keeps their promises. Assume anything you say will end up around the crewroom or on an internet message board.
9. Don't post company material on the internet (yes people have done this).
10. Don't talk behind other people's back. Say something nice and if you have a beef with someone, man (or woman) up and talk directly to them.
11. If you have a feeling you'll bust a checkride call in sick or ask to get out of training. Your company will be upset but you won't have an unsat on your record.
12. Zero tolerance for racism, sexual harassment, etc.
13. Get your university degree, it's worth it.
14. Live in base.
15. If you have your CFI, keep renewing it.
16. Keep up with General Aviation. Remember all the little things you learned as a private pilot, such as how to open a flight plan on the radio, light gun signals, etc.
17. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR FREE/DISCOUNTED TRAVEL AND TRAVEL TO FAR AWAY PLACES.
18. LIVE THE GOLDEN RULE.
