I hope all of the folks on here happy with the tax changes enjoy the couple years until it is phased out and you’re paying more.

While the corporations enjoy their permanent cut.

Actually cap gains for the more wealthy (not hard to hit) are 24%, 20% top rate plus 4% surcharge.

Also cap gains below roughly 75k are 0% for MFJ.

Doing taxes next week, not looking forward to it, especially living here in “The People’s Republic of Kalifornia.” Even being married and having kids kills us each and every year. It’s sad that a six figure income is basically “poverty” in this state. Counting down the days until I have a Texas postal code.

I'm in favor of some kind of balance, nothing too extreme, but again, this idea that if you tax at rates above 33-40%, the rich suddenly lose the will to work and will not work any harder to earn more money? Just seems so crazy to me...
Ehhh not really, my father is an orthopedic surgeon and is in the top 1% he is contemplating retirement because his taxes keep going up and up (he’s was planning on doing it in a few years anyways) but he said what is the point in working hard (works a lot harder then I do) if Uncle Sam and malpractice insurance is going to take all his money. So he’s probably going to retire this year and go have fun fishing and hunting instead of working harder for less then half of what he used to make.

More than a widebody captain. Avg in USA is around 550k but he has his own practice he started with some other guys. This biggest difference is he was making that ever since getting out of Med school. He is above that avg but is cutting back some to be with grandkids etc. he worked his butt off when he was younger with on call and what not growing his practice, but he always asks me to swap jobs with him haha.

I know a couple of Orthopods:

wide range of salary, from 500K+ (works in a teaching hospital) to 1.5M + (founding partner in large group in big city)

this would be after expenses but before taxes.
