As a middle age regional TOOL I like to Delta bash as much as anyone. It keeps me from crying knowing people my age make five times what I make just to operate an aircraft.
With that disclaimer in mind I think the Delta pilot deserves a break. He got asked to help and he tried to help. End of story.
