Well perhaps but I will drive places I prefer to fly to stay off silver and when I buy tickets on legacies that require a regional leg I will make the routing such to be on a regional I feel more comfortable about. I absolutely will not get on Mesa or go jet. I take a pause on a handful of others to see if there is a better option.

He doesn't get an A+ for his contribution by any means (maybe a D+) but he was asked for help by ATC, so he was put on the spot and had to try. He didn't know how bad it was or wasn't. I've NEVER heard ATC ask other aircraft for help like this, it's so unusual I would assume it was a really bad situation (sounds like it almost was).
I'm not going to monday-morning a guy who got put on the spot.

Airlines with lots of movement as well due to flow or just general hiring out means lower overall time in the cockpit. The airlines without flow and more stagnant lists with no growth tend to have more experience up front. It’s a **** sandwich for those there but you don’t have 2000hr ca and 1000hr FOs on those cases. If I’m flying into a mountainous airport like a ski town or BFE Mexico I’d prefer Skywest or xjt just because that type of flying isn’t their exception is very common so it makes me feel better at least

Have you ever once in your experience flying planes professionally or for pleasure heard a controller say on a frequency "hey quick! Who's got experience on XYZ type to help these guys out!?"
Yeah. Me neither.
I suspect it went something more like this:
ATL Ground: For those of you on freq, departures have been stopped indefinitely. I say again, departures are stopped.
Our DAL Hero: *indignant tone* Uh ground. What's the reason for the stop?
ATL Ground: There's an E175 with severe control issues doing circles off the departure end of the south complex trying to regain control of their aircraft.
Our DAL Hero: Ground, I've got experience on that type. What freq are they on? I'll see if I can sort them out.
ATL Ground: Ummm sure...they're still on tower. 119.3.
Sometimes less is more, folks.

DAL guy is vindicated, ground was asking the regional pilots if they could help with a 175. Regional guys said no, so he offered at that point.
Since ATC asked for help I'll give him a pass for asking about the QRH, maybe just wanted to know where they were in the process.

Well now I have. Mea culpa.
Agreed. This DAL pilot stepped up in a situation he knew nothing about and came out of it kinda looking like the dummy. However, I do still think it's highly unusual and ill advised for ATC to make such a request. These are two current and qualified aviation professionals we're talking about, not an untrained flight attendant or passenger who suddenly finds themselves at the controls of an angry, out of control jet.
