Maybe he/she is a clown on spare time and is practicing for an appearance later. Maybe he/she just got engaged and was doing the happy dance. Maybe the song repeating in his/her head Is awesome and deserves a few dance steps. Maybe he/she had ants in the pants. You don't know. Don't judge man!

Republic is not a major. TOTD denied

Agree about ATC, I would not expect them to do that unless asked by the emergency aircraft. That's why I gave DL dude a pass (FWIW).

To ATC’s defense she did specifically say in the recording: “If you can think of anything get back to ME and I’ll let them know since they are swamped over there” something along those lines. So she never actually told him to try to contact brickyard or tower for that matter.

Why "of course?"

Sure, the gentlemanly way would be remind him of the proper etiquette and give him a chance to catch himself and try again, but to automatically let him on no matter what? That would only be justifying his feeling of entitlement as true. And in denying someone there no need to beat around the bush with a fictitious deferral, you can just tell him straight up why.

True, true... But after the recent jumpseat war silliness, the last thing we wanted to do was deny anyone a ride home. Sometimes you just gotta shake your head, grimace inwardly, and get on with the day...

There was a better way to the ask the question but what he was probably getting at was "are there going to be any MEL associated master alarms at awkward times in the flight profile". Some MEL-associated alarms can pop up on the T/O roll and are not inhibited.

You’re joking right ?

Had a similar event, with an overseas carrier. The potential jumpseater was a wet behind the ears newbie. Strike one... he questioned us about MELs, flight plan, fuel load. Then said I’m riding on the jump seat with you lads to XXXX.

OK the kid was youngster was a 30,000 hour inexperienced individual with less than 1,000 hours in his log book. I requested to view his credentials... ID, license, passport, and medical. His response was “No need, I’m a company F/O.”... He was a two striper, a cadet. That was strike two. I didn’t wait for strike three. Then was not the time to lecture the individual about etiquette.

I told him “You’re invited to deplane. Do not attempt to take a seat in the passenger cabin”. I called the Purser to the front and advised her that the youngster decided not to ride with us and can should be escorted to the main entry way.

Called the base captain, and advised him of the event. End result... the youngster was counseled on the matter and the importance of etiquette and how the cockpit, forward of the jump seat is sacrosanct.

I'm reminded of another jumpseater. Guy was new to the airlines and a new hire at my former shop, so I really want to help him to make a good impression. Red flag #1: He comes up and tells (not asks) us that he's deadheading but he will be on the jumpseat so the gate agent can get more pax on. I ask him if there was anyone else up at the gate trying for the jumpseat which is met with a shrug and an "I'unno"."Well did you ask?" "No..." K cool buddy. I look at the captain and tell him I'm gonna go make sure there aren't any true jumpseaters trying to get on. After a quick check of the gate area and a powwow with the gate agent, I'm satisfied that he isn't bumping off any legitimate jumpseaters and return to my seat. We've got a few minutes still to push and the captain is already counseling him on why what he did is almost always a no no but I can tell this kid having a "sure thing pops" moment.

Fast forward to cruise and the kid pipes up that we should ask for direct XYZ. Red flag #2. Captain says he doubts we'll get it since the MOA off to our east is usually active this time of day. Kid insists we'll get it "No. We get it all the time." Captain just shrugs at me "Doesn't hurt to ask." Sure enough, request denied. "Gonna have to leave you on the route due to active military airspace." I can't help but snicker. Captain says "I used to be the ATC liaison for the guard unit down there *points*. The MOA is usually active this time of day".

Now were on the descent and captain is briefing the approach. Red flag #3. Kid pipes up again to correct the captain about his choice of runway. "This arrival and this time of day, they're not gonna give you that runway," our helpful hero informs us. Captain says "ya know...I'm pretty confident in my choice, but if they change it, I'll re-brief". Sure enough, we get assigned the captain's planned runway and the jumpseater is incredulous. "I've never seen them do this!" he huffs. Captain chuckles "I've been flying jets in here for about the last 25 years and it's pretty common".

Well we finally get to the gate and our jumpseater takes off. Captain looks over and says "well I don't know how the hell were gonna make it to LA without that guys help". That's when I lose it.:D

TOTD confirmed

The regional jet I fly has a pretty common EICAS caution message that sometimes pops up shortly after applying takeoff thrust, but then goes away usually after about 10-15 seconds. It's for high oil pressure and is limited to 5 minutes. We always continue and the monitoring pilot hits the timer button (unless you've got a really green FO that's not familiar).

A United pilot was on the jumpseat one day and the message popped up and he called the abort.
