This was well over a decade ago so I don’t remember the exact details other than the royal butt chewing I got over the radio. I’ve definitely got the “flow” down now.

Word of advice about the Southport: if ORD is on a west flow and there's a line of planes coming down the alley for the Southport, it doesn't matter a lick if you're parking at E16, you're gonna enter at the Northport. Don't ask, don't stop. Ain't worth the hassle especially when we get paid by the minute.

Now, if it's during a lull and the alley is clear, get the OK from ramp and bring 'er on in the Southport. Ground doesn't give a rip cause you're off their pavement. Don't ask, don't stop.

I think we should add "O'Hare ground 'lightning round'," to the usual furlough, strike, divorce of airline pilot battle stars. Say what you want about Chicago, they can really push some tin.

Ok, I believe it. But why should it be necessary for someone to learn this from an anonymous internet forum post instead of, you know, Ground Control?

I nominate everyone who posted whiney complaints on the Radio etiquette thread. Oh, I guess I’m included in that one...

Oh, it's not just ground that'll school you there.

My first flight to ORD was I guess during a relative low in traffic volume. They gave me the usual rapid-fire directions, and being new and stupid I wrote down half and asked for the second half again over the radio without asking my experienced CA if he'd gotten it. Dead. Silence. You could cut it with a knife, it was so thick. 20 seconds of NOTHING on the radio. It was like I'd cut the worlds biggest fart in church, that's what it was like.

Then someone, obviously a tad bit more experienced, came on and said "well I guess I can help y'all out..." and he read my taxi clearance back for me. I guess I got off easy, and my CA was polite enough to dissolve in a fit of coughing instead of rubbing it in laughing at the noob mistake.

Nobody else said anything but I still wake up some nights, in my mind hearing everyone laughing at the new guy. Some scars don't fade LOL.

Some already use Deltas. Considering how much they lose it when someone says Delta Airlines instead of Delta Air Lines, I’m shocked they don’t lose it when someone uses incorrect grammar for the callsign.

How about UDAL. University of Delta Air Lines, where you can learn to think you’re better than everyone and wear a band uniform to work every day.
