Would You Open It?
Mr vagabond went to the beach today with Snickers and found a bottle with a message inside. There is also something metal like clanking in there.
The note rolled up inside is intact and dry. We can see the following:
Ross Bay, Victoria BC
Dear Uncle Bill
Our family is
Goodbye
That it gets
Can't tell what the metal thing is. Can't see a date.
Should we open it? Would you open it if you found it?
Ross Bay is not that far as the crow flies from where we are, but if it was launched at the beach there, the bottle would have to make its way south through heavy traffic towards the Salish Sea, turn west, round the sharp northwest corner of Washington, then turn south again.

We still haven't opened it. It's actually very pretty with barnacles and seaweed attached to the outside. So we've put it on a saucer (to catch the sand) and have it displayed on the fireplace mantle for now.
The cap is sealed in Parafilm so, yes, it can be re-sealed if we open it (and have access to Parafilm). I thought that depending on what the letter says, we might add our own note, seal it back up, and throw it back out to sea.
Tomorrow, we plan to drive up to Cape Flattery and Neah Bay where this bottle would have had to make the turn south. It's interesting to imagine its journey dodging cargo ships, the Norwegian Bliss, the Black Ball ferry from Port Angeles, orca whales, and whatnot.
Another thought is to go to Ross Bay and stand on that beach.
