Sure, however my point is it doesn't justify the paranoia that some exhibit. There isn't a demonstrated need to cover your camera or remove company devices from meetings. The evidence doesn't support it.

You've obviously never worked for AMR or AAG

Back to original post, there also isn't reason to live your life in fear. Don't be an arse and you'll get through this career (and life) just fine. Feel bad for those that hinder their own life experiences and relationships on the off chance something they do will get them in trouble.

No arguments there.

Technically all true. But the company will probably not see it that way, at least not to the extent of non-reving to Europe for two weeks with a sick call or two in the middle somewhere. That kind of thing, and being out of position on reserve, is where the real trouble starts... if the sick call amounted to lying, and they can prove it, you can get fired on the first offense.

But even if they can't prove it, they'll still remember for next time. Knew a guy, claimed his 'roids were acting up, doc said don't spend a lot of time sitting so he called in sick and went skiing. Might even have been legit, but he got on the company radar for sure with that one. That's really the point, stay anonymous so if you ever do get in a real bind you might get some human empathy from a manager or two... as opposed to gleeful excitement because they got you now.

Depends how you do it too. You call in sick for a reserve day the night before, when they haven’t assigned you any flying? Likely no one will bat an eye. You call in sick immediately after getting assigned flying, they might decided to dig. If they did and they notice that you were nowhere near the callout window? You’re gonna have a bad time.

Sure, prudent routine use of sick calls will not get any attention at most majors.

Calling out sick after a reserve assignment will get scrutiny, best to not be noticeably out of position.

Rec travel or posting epic vacay pics on social media while sick can be bad, if anyone happens to be looking.

Yes.

With apple, turning it "off" is not enough. It's "off" to you, but it's still on, still knows where it is, and that data can be accessed when you use it later. Or maybe the actual owner/administrator (the company) can ping it when it's "off", they do have that "find my device" feature.

If you don't want your EFB functioning as a company lojack, get something like this...

lojack - showing our age.

The other thing that I loved was he kept the cockpit door closed at all times. It was closed during boarding and long sits and it was so quiet and peaceful. He didn’t like anyone looking in and he felt more secure. I wish more CA’s would do that.

Obviously nonreving without CP approval would be stupid. Driving to the beach or mountain is clearly the way to go if you’re not SAFE to fly. Social media is poison to society and anyone dumb enough to post pictures while out sick deserves what they have coming.
