I ask because my FOM tells me I’m supposed to. I’d have a hard time explaining myself to the FAA or CP if something like this ever came up in a debrief.

The jump seat is available as a professional courtesy not a right. I don’t jumpseat often but when I do I have all of my docs ready, medical and certificate included. It’s not that hard.

Totally my fault but why can I ride up front on own metal even without a current medical but not on someone else?

Now the capt wants to see my credentials so now I go back to the galley and get it out of my roller bag , and once again, gotta chat it up with the Purser.
Now all that’s done , I make my way to my seat , while answering pax questions about the flight , plane and airport along the way . I also formally introduce myself to any FA I see, let them know I’m in the back , just in case they need anything.I’m addition, I help any pax I can with their bags and close any open overhead bin . Now that I’m almost to my seat , I turn around just in time to catch a glimpse of the hot FA in the rear galley and of course I go introduce myself , just in case …….wait for it ………………………,.,,,, just in case she needs anything. Now we are ready for departure.

If you're sitting in the back there is no reason to go to the cp and talk to anyone even if you're offline.

When I j/s on other airlines and get a seat from the agent I go and sit down. Everyone should do that.
