I believe everything my government tells me.
Including shutting down airspace for 10 days (Oh wait, 2 hours) with a TFR without warning to shoot down a [checks notes] party balloon with of some sort discobulating laser.
Yeah. That sounds totally awesome.
Whatever the opposite of BS plopping smelling is? That's what this story is about.
'Merica.

So some gov agencies had some intramural dysfunction.
One of them took a dramatic measure to ensure safety of civilian aviation. Probably give him credit for that... what if someone had grounded flights at DCA last year because there were too many military helos buzzing around?
The safety issue doesn't sound like party balloons, it was lasers.

The whole "drone insursion thing" made zero sense for justification of that TFR. Anybody with critical thinking skills, especially professional pilots, should have been able to see through that smokescreen.
You don't publish a NOTAM at 0332z, that doesn't go into effect until 0630z and shuts down airspace down for TEN DAYS, for a drone border insursion happening right now.

OPEN LINES OF COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AGENCIES?
https://apnews.com/live/faa-el-paso-...closed-updates
The sudden and surprising airspace closure over El Paso, Texas, stemmed from the Pentagon’s plans to test a laser for use in shooting down drones used by Mexican drug cartels, according to three people familiar with the situation who were granted anonymity to share sensitive details.
That caused friction with the Federal Aviation Administration, which wanted to ensure commercial air safety and the two agencies sought to coordinate, according to two of the people. Despite a meeting scheduled later this month to discuss the issue, the Pentagon wanted to go ahead and test it, prompting the FAA to shutter the airspace. It was not clear whether the laser was ultimately deployed.
