For the money Delta sounds cool, but with the short ground/turnaround at JFK at customs on the way back you might miss your connect. NWA coming back thru AMS sounds about right, I assume coming out of AMS back to the US your customs port of entry is where you are mission complete?

Well. My parents recently did Lufthansa one way in coach, and the other way on United in coach. They loved Lufthansa and hated United. YMMV.

Myself, I go Biz Class. When I did it a lot 5 years ago, Lufthansa and KLM were the best, Air Canada was okay, and United was by far the worst. Again. YMMV.

My general experience with international travel is the US carriers suck compared to the foreign ones, with the exception of China Air and EVA. YMMV.

Same experience here - the foreign airlines are almost like flying here prior to deregulation. The service is great - in first or business.

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful responses. After expending a few gray cells on the matter, and weighing all the factors, I decided to go with NWA. SAS just simply did not have anything that would give us more time in CPH to clear customs, otherwise we'd be on it.

And HerkChief, yes, SEA is home and I've always preferred flights that fly directly back here. It's somehow more meaningful when the Immigration guy says "welcome home."
